Steam Broadcasting and Adult Content

This is an interesting issue.

For those that haven't heard, currently in Steam beta is a sort of Twitch-like feature for broadcasting.

 

Now this is only an issue because of the lack of having no specific "Broadcast" button. It would seem like they're making it so friends can watch just by poking their head in with a request.

 

And under Steam rules, you cannot broadcast "porn", which.. well.. 

I believe you see the point I'm getting at.

 

 

 

Now I don't have the beta, but the FAQ seems to hint that it's not as cut-and-dry a broadcast feature as Twitch.

The way I understood it you first need to allow them after they request for the first time to watch. And after that you always chan change your settings to not let anyone watch.

You can actually change your privacy settings. There is an option called "Only friends that I invite" that should be pretty self-explanatory.

 

About broadcasting porn: you just can't make it public. If you broadcast porn to friends only, it'll never show up in the "Broadcasts Tab", which means there is nothing moderators can do about it.

 

Also, mods don't seem to care about Skyrim porn that much. I have a guy on my friends list who streams Skyrim and he has SexLab installed. Every once in a while, he shows his character having sex. He told me that in the beginning, he and whoever else did that would receive a lenghty community ban. Now, mods don't even bother anymore, and simply remove their stream from the 'Broadcast' tab until they reset it, which means that whoever was watching it at the moment can continue doing so, and the stream itself isn't taken down.

The folks on Steam definitely don't seem to have a problem with nudity or even mild sexual content of the kind that one can find in certain M-rated games as I am far from the only person to have posted nudes in the community screenshot feed without incident regardless of the gender of the characters in said images (so long as they aren't children,of course).

 

It wouldn't really be an issue as long as one doesn't use Sexlab mods in plain view of anyone watching the Steam stream. It's kind of like putting on a pair of pants before answering the door or,in the case of naturists, keeping their hands off or out of their genitals when doing the same.
