Blender - Exporting A Custom Fallout Body

Hello! First post, nice to meet ya, yada yada.

I'm trying to make a modified type 3 body for my character, but after editing the mesh and exporting it, using it causes the game to automatically ctd every time they take off their armour.

These are the export options that were used. I didn't change them at all.

As for the nif itself. All I did was import it, use sculpt mode to alter the pieces I want, then export it back out. So, do you guys know what step I missed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Moving to Fallout tech support section.

Depending on what you sculpted\altered you may have to delete the skeleton and re-import it.  Hard to say for sure until you give us more information on what you did.

Try to remove the BSFadeNode on top right, add the ShadowMap. If it will still CTD, there's somethin else like Gregathit said

Glad it worked. But check the result in game, because I feel it will appear slightly different in game. If it's so, you probably would want to check the shaders via nifskope and add FaceGen and SKIN etc. I will attach you a screenshot of the settings in case you need it

Sure, I'll even post a few screenies. Don't judge me too harshly, this is the very first mesh I've edited, and it's far from done.

That is with just the chest part done. But I thought they looked way too kiddish, so now I'm trying to edit for wide hips and legs, as well as a thicker torso. It's going. . . neutral.

EH0gEyj.png I'm probably going to spend quite a few weeks tweaking this as i learn blender better.

Other then the wonky mesh, this looks normal, right? Shader-wise, anywho.

Edit: Ignore the wonky texture placement. I haven't touched it, and don't plan to until the mesh is passable.

well maybe I don't even need a screenshot :)

just use nifskope to open both the original file mesh and your modified / exported mesh, then compare the parameters.

Expand the body NiTriStrip, highlight BSShaderPPLighting and compare in the Block Details: Shader Type (which probably you will have to set to Skin) and Shader Flags (which probably will miss SF_Facegen).

Also, you would like to check the NiMaterialProperty - Glossiness

Everytime you export something you probably will have to check if you like these parameters.

In my opinion it is very useful to compare with nifskope vanilla files and files modded by other people, it's very fast and you could learn useful tricks

I know you got it working, but that export script setting is horribly wrong...

When only doing a body alteration and nothing else, do these steps:

1. make sure it's set as Skin under shaders.

2. do NOT set it to Stripify Geometries and Stitch Strips - these are opposite settings.

3. don't use BSFadeNode as was said above, as that is for objects like buildings, cars, etc.

I am not sure if the smoothen seams is needed, as I never use it for my tweaks, but if it doesn't damage the body, then keep it. When you make it a .nif file,

always be sure to go into NifSkope to tweak it to the right settings. What A.J. above said is true, but if you set the plugin above to the 'skin' setting, then the

BSShaderPPLighting settings should be set correctly. Maybe a few things need checking so be sure to check the vanilla body to the alteration you made.

You must go into the settings of the meat caps etc, as these are always re-set to Blender's settings for objects. You will have to go into the BSShaderPPLighting

settings to fix those to the same as the vanilla, and be sure to remove the alpha node and re-add it to each separate piece. Blender adds the one alpha setting

to all dismember parts, which is incorrect. It might show fine in-game, but they won't be correct.

Sorry for spouting all this mumbo-jumbo at you, but even though I have only been doing this for the last six or seven months, I have learned a lot in that short time.

Try this if you want, and let me know how it went!

Oh! I forgot to say that the dismember parts will also be set to skin, so you'll have to set them back according to the settings seen in the vanilla parts.
