ZepD Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 ... On top of other things like randomly missing meshes and textures (it seems to be random whenever I start a new game) pic shows the textures changing on a door and mop on the floor by just viewing them at different angles. Anyone know what causes this? I've updated archive invalidation. Could it be a mod conflict? Guest Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 missing textures, the mesh is covered with some texture it finds near it, the effect is that strange texture swap. I would doubt a conflict of a mod, it would mean a mod is changing some random meshes like that destroyed door, and then needs a peculiar texture because it doesn't use vanilla, but the file is missing... pretty strange in my opinion. Are you using retextures? I would try to play around with Archive invalidation, to see if it's really working
Chaosdisorder Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I had this too and for me, the problem was that i had to many mods going on. So i reduced my modlist and the problem went away.
ZepD Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Is there anything you can do in archive invalidation besides turn it on / off? Still have this problem to a smaller degree. It's really annoying
GreatKazooMan Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Also check to see that the .dds files are the correct setting. Some don't have alpha channels so they don't need to have DXT5 (which is the best for alpha channels), but go with DXT1 instead. Also, always make sure they are mip-mapped, or else that odd switching of textures can happen. I've seen it in the GECK a hundred times, and it went away when I set the .dds file properly...
ZepD Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 how can I tell what dds files pertain to the problems i see in game. For instance if i notice a tile in a bathroom is doing this... how do i find the dds file associated with it? Or would using texture optimizer and changing the compression to DXT1 for everything work?
ZepD Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 So i used optimizer textures and now the game is stuck starting up (wont get to main menu) ran it to use DXT1 for no mask, DXT5 for the rest, and add mip maps if none. How exactly would doing this break my game? I tried enabling and disabling invalidation through the program for it and through FOMM both methods didn't work. edit: so i tried running the game with no mods, no invalidation, and its still wont get to the main menu. Trying to run the game without script extender exe instantly crashes and the nvlauncher says i have no ini files and the game isn't even installed? like my game is now beyond broken, all i did was run that optimizer textures (un did it with the backups it made) and made a new bashed and merged patch. edit2: managed to get back to square one using a backup I have from months ago, apparently the problem was just the [archive] section of FALLOUT.ini, idk how but it managed to break my game, overwriting that portion of my current ini with the old one has the game working again. Now I can compressing textures to dxt1 and adding mip maps to see if that fixes the problem. What a nightmare lol. edit3: adding mip maps and DXT1 didnt work, same things happening. edit4: ok I found a solution finally. Deleting the dds files associated with the texture fixes the problem. I was able to find the texture files for tin cans and medical kits, but I'm still at a loss to find obscure dds files for things like tiles / walls
ZepD Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Maybe someone who knows a lot about textures can tell why this happens in game? The link below is to one of the textures (diffusal and normal) that does this in game. Removing it of course solves the problem by reverting the in game texture to the vanilla version. https://mega.co.nz/#!rstFBDoI!5ux7lp-Jwh8vWf7c15yrgHiSeB0V0p2fab6BwYQFkFA
CoxcombCornking Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Texture Optimizer wouldn't have done anything to keep your game from loading. It just does what it says. I've had issues with modded items giving that weird flashing multiple texture problem as well. Many folks have had this glitch, at times. The meshes are looking for a texture that isn't where it is supposed to be. The item(s) just need to have a new texture assigned to them. Use Nifskope to do this directly to meshes. But, as you state that this is an ongoing problem with numerous textures, and other bad things happening as well, it could be possible that your game has exceeded the "safe" number of mods that can be placed in your particular load order. The upper limit number seems to be different for everyone, based on loaded mod sizes, individual gaming set-ups, etc. You may need to keep experimenting.
