blu377 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 So, after re-installing Skyrim again (all fresh) off Steam, upon adding a few mods & playing I noticed these weird lines, would appreciate it very much if anyone could shed some info on this please & let me know how to sort it out, thank you ScreenShot5.zip
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 That... is very strange. I remember seeing something similar several years ago in a completely different game, but I don't remember what was causing it or how it was fixed... You said you are running a nearly-vanilla game, yes? What is your current load order? And by chance do the lines go away indoors, or are they limited to just that area, or do they go away or get bigger/more when you change your outfit, etc? Johnny five needs input!

Ok, excuse the noobness I'm using NMM, how would I get a load order off it please? And yeah, I haven't checked indoors yet, was freaking me out & I didn't wan't to make it worse . Yeah, game is almost Vanilla, it changes depending on camera angle as far as I can tell, even in daylight the screen will go dark with the lines & lines vanish & daylight comes back upon rotating the camera again. By the way, thank you for replying
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I've never used NMM, I'm not sure how to get the load order off of that. Can you just tell us what mods you are using? And... when it changes depending on camera angle, do you mean that the lines sort of follow the angle of the camera? Like, if they're straight up and down, and you turn slightly to the right, do the lines go slightly diagonal from top right to bottom left? Because that's what I remember my problem being in that other game (and at this point I can't even remember the game, only the problem )

Because that's what I remember my problem being in that other game (and at this point I can't even remember the game, only the problem ) Apart from all DLC's, here goes: HDTHighHeel, racecompatibility, sharedserena, sexlab, Zazanimation, brows, SkyUi, KS Hairdo's, Realistic ragdoll force, racemenu, fins spells, racemenu plugin, quicks start, Alternate start, ningheim esp, scarlet dawn armor, newmillerLO1 (latex clothing), studded leather, unp blessed body, xp32 skeleton & feminine dash. The lines appear all directions, doesn't seem to be a specific pattern & when I turn the camera they just seem to swipe off the screen like an object in game would, if that makes any sense.

If I turn the camera slowly, they move with it, but not in the same way as the camera, for example, if I tilt the camera up, the lines will stay diagonal but will go towards the edge of the camera until I move it further, that's when they vanish off the screen.
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I don't see anything in your mods that would be causing this problem (although I'm curious how "quick start" and "alternate start" work together). However, if the lines actually disappear off screen when you move the camera, they are more than likely coming from a bad mesh somewhere. Since you are out in the wilderness, I'd guess it is a rock or a tree. Try this in the console: " coc qasmoke " If the lines go away, it's a bad environment object mesh somewhere. If the lines persist, your meshes are fine and I have no earthly idea what is going on.

Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Not easily. I mean, you'd have to go through your meshes folder and try to identify the culprit individually, possibly by deleting one mesh at a time and having the object revert back to vanilla. Having said that, if it really is just a bad mesh problem, it shouldn't interfere with your game at all or cause crashes or anything. It will just look weird. Also, depending on which mesh is the problem, the issue might just be confined to Whiterun hold or something. Try going to Winterhold outdoors and see if it is still there.

I'll try going to Winterhold & checking, as for the meshes one by one, would be quicker for Vanilla install again I guess Again, thank you very much for all your help, really appreciate it Content
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 So many times, I've run into problems where it is just quicker to reinstall Skyrim than try to find the exact problem. I sympathize. But! Before you go nuking your game, decide whether the lines are that much of a problem for you... depending on your download speed, it could be several hours wasted redownloading, when the lines (however immersion breaking they are) may well be confined to a smallish area. Good luck!

Good luck! Yeah, I've done that many times too & since then started saving a clean back up of vanilla install, which is where this one I'm playing now has come from, does that mean the problem is likely to still be in that specific back up?
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Hah! I do the same thing! Got a 13 gigabyte zip file just waiting to be put back into the data directory. I don't know... it depends on when you made the backup. It's a possibility.

I don't know... it depends on when you made the backup. It's a possibility. Ok, back, at first it was looking very positive in Winterhold, but then I noticed vague lines appearing in certain places of Winterhold, dammit Maybe time for a fresh install from steam, now, got to go kill a couple of hours Thank you for your help Content, take care. Blu.
Content Consumer Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Aargh.Well, my theory might still hold some weight, because there are some rock meshes that are common to all areas... but really, I'm just guessing now. Good luck blu.

Opening this back up as I'm still having the same problem, even with fresh Vanilla Skyrim, I'm guessing it could be my monitor, cables, drives, not sure to be honest & would rather get advice before I mess with stuff. Anyone have any idea's on how to fix this please?
Guest Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 That's very weird. Reinstalling the game from scratch kind of rules out game assets as a cause. Drivers updated, or tried rolling back? Are you overclocking? What are your gpu temps like? Do you have an integrated GPU, and if you use a dedicated card, could you swap to an integrated one to test? I've had issues with Skyrim that didn't happen with other games, probably because it's an unoptimized monster and tends to tax the hardware more than it ought to I guess.

Seems it was something on the other PC, this one is fine.....so far . I'll close this topic now, would like to say thank you to Content & w33beast1e for your help, time, suggestions & patience with my noob-ness Take care both
