Creation Kit problem - Aela the Huntress default outfit

I wanted to change Aela's default gear through the Creation Kit, and no matter what I do she won't change in game.  I can get the new gear in game, I can put it in her inventory (if I add it to the inventory container and not the default outfit), but she won't wear it.  I can change the Ancient Nordic armor to pull from the meshes that I want to use, but then I get ghosts running around in Aela's new armor.

 

I admit that I'm fairly inexperienced with the CK, but I just ran a test where I created an .esp that changed Aela's default outfit to the chef outfit, and also changed Adrianne Avenicci's default outfit to the chef outfit, and started the game.  Did a console resurrect on Adrianne, and she pops up in the chef outfit.  Did a console resurrect on Aela, and she is still in her Ancient Nordic set.

 

I'm at a loss.  Is there something I'm missing?  Is it just impossible to change her outfit for some reason?  Is there some special attribute to her that I also need to change to get the outfit to stick?

will save you alot of work with this  three mods that you can use not all at once but try three and pick one UFO Ultmate follower overhaul more eps more problems than the others do not know been years since i used it. My personal favorite is AFT amazing follower tweaks. Lets you do about anything you want with a follower works on all offical dlc. Can make your followers into vampires, vampire lords, and wearbears and werewolfs.

 

Only thing is it is hard to fully control suggest two mods for that become high king of skyrim and the other I use is puppet master not for the perks though. last is expired's mod it does most of what ufo and aft do but through a command menu. Has a few mods in there such as a mind control spell that makes anyone a follower and has when i checked a 100 follower compat built in so a 100 followers the others have things it does not it has things they do not. Last option if you do not like aft there is another mod though i use a translation on the author's page for links mods name is Follower live package. But on your thing to change close do not know about UFO do know that AFT and eff have that all built in. Spell you want to add can be added in all three custom spells i be wary though.

 

UFO,AFT, and Eff are all on nexus and the others i mentioned but puppet master though there is a reason for that. Though on a side node if you like aela for a follower Amazing follower tweaks can change her default outfit and she can trasform into a werewolf to with it. The authors reason alone to make the mod was for that very reason to make aela more immersive.

Thanks, I know about those... this is more an exercise in learning how to mod myself.  I know how to get her in other clothes, I'm trying to make something that puts her in other clothes.

For that way it depends there is a npc editor very old very old that used to be the easiest way if your using her for other reasons there are mods that do that as well if just to test the mod or to learn to mod. One place to check out is STEP project wiki page best source i know of. Another is the personal step youtube channel. And last but best is Gopher Vids or gopher.

 

Though if you need to talk to gopher for questions use his steam page or his nexus page. Gopher's mod steam is proably the easiest way to find him as he put it on their recently. other is video series but he is the only one named gopher i know of on youtube. First name that pops up last channel i recomnd is Brodual. and if your looking for all the best ones but one that i will mention list gopher on his youtube channel has most of the main teams of channels on his as links.

 

Last i will mention but do what you want is MMOxrreview nice guy though nothing against but you will learn why if you watch one video of his mod show case show.  Though STEP wiki or gopher are all i can recomned on that. There is a very very old mod series down by some guy on youtube might still be there now all he calls himself is dinosaur gaming. Speaks for itself. All i know hope that helps

 

Though any of these channels I said but the STEP offical wiki page youtube channel do not normally aswner pms through youtube do not know on gopher he is very humble and friendly the real is on youtube there mail box is full every day on most.

 

Now if your looking to just to see how to add a item then there are other ways in the CK if you want the Character herself as a playable toon then the npc face locker mod is the easiest way for that if you want for mainly you just have to make a custom preset suggest Extended character editor or Race menu.

 

Race menu works much like what you want and with Familar faces you can just make a aela follower use most of the same diaglog or voice and be more like inidgo or serena or have any voice mainly in the game that is with Follower commentary overhaul so she can have say Ysolda voice and everything else. Other than that do not know  All of those are one Nexus for mostly.

Yeah, I tried the same basic chef outfit test through the NPC editor as well.  I was pretty sure I had played around with that before and changed someone's default outfit (though being limited to outfits that come with the game is limiting for what I want to do).

 

Same results.  Adrianne's worked, Aela's didn't.

Then your best bet is Racemenu and Famialr faces and Follower commentary overhaul all three do what you want. The thing you need is a preset of her though or make one Ultmaite face unlocker is old but the best one for that. Rest after you get the preset or find one or etc you make a character put her in whatever you want her in and use Famlar faces.

 

The rest does the rest you can delete the save game  just keep what ever mods item hair etc or preset in your load order or install them if you do something else that is all you need load order means nothing. For quickstarts there are only three which i personally like LIve another life. Skyim unbound not skyrim bound differnt mods and. Then if you want real quick starts there are otheres though the fastest in the game is DImes Quickstart mod. There is one called random starting factions but that mod predates even creation kit but still works.
 

Last thing on race menu and the others if you want to edit the character race menu does that to make the character what ever you want in reason. The NPC face unlocker is mainly what i use along with a hair mod unlocker for most races. Well beast good luck on that not many do that or have problems. But if you want just her as a quick follower do not ike the outfit want to marry her kill her fight her any time or etc then Famialr faces is that and the other mods i said. Race menu saves the preset anyway so if you delete anything it is mostly intact other thing that will be mising is maybe hair if a mod or race thing the preset is all that is needed for that to use you can change skin color add elf ears.

 

And make her any race and even if you do not like the commander voice she uses then you can make it anything with the mod that says follower or spouse mainly two i suggest are the voices for sapphire and ysolda what is funny they are in there right next to each other. And if you want her to be a werewolf to then AFT. Last you do not need to be a werewolf to finsh the questline well for the totems but if you want just her and all that then two vampire mods well three or four i use Better vampires on nexus. Master edtion and the royal bloodline patch. Next one is the npc feeding mod. And last is the vampire face unlocker. And then if your looking for a skulpt mod use Vanity mirror.

 

Though aft has one bug in Faces i did not mention a very minor in dialog not very big deal with AFT being you can change the voices in the mcm menu of the comentary overhaul so not much big deal though next update is the big one for me. But only reason is that i used to edit voices for my pc but it was such a hasstle to get audio and to set npc voices not puting them on your toon keep them working. But if your looking for something to easy change your main player voice. Though it is very very experimental is Player voice sets. Nexus is all i know it is on though do check out the modders other work he has made some nice mods.

 

Last I recomend is the SKY TWEAK mod and a few other of that modders mods. The only one i would not use unless you do not have many MCM mods or no Mod organizer is his AI tweak mod it is on his website see SKYTWEAK on nexus for the link. Though a few more are the renamer mod must have mod. It just came out a few weeks ago should be easy to find. On steam and nexus. Last i one is Nauiscas npc tweaker. name says it all  but if your looking for that fast and skytweak just type in tweak on the search bar on nexus. If a spell mod most prefer the apoca few midas magic and others phendrix. Some i use personally are is the mod package made by the power of the gods author. His main mod package. There are a few more as well for that mainly the Naruto overhaul mod nexus for that if you do not want the eyes there is a spell package for that in the optionals last and my favorite spell package of all is the Forgetten magic

 

Redone not the orginal the mod author made. But that is all i know for all that. The last ones i forget are the authors other mod of skytweak his item adder and the grimey tweaks. Mainly the item all i use is for soul gems has all other items though. But i do use a few more the crafting conjure mod has everything mostly for it and etc Leverlers tower not for the thing its metioned though. Though really I only use like two cheat mods freecraft on steam all 4  mods  and become high king of skyrim. Last two i use are the finger of god and npc dead body remover why not.

 

Sorry got ahead of myself but the Three mods Race menu Familair faces and commentary follower overhaul work with about any race custom or so and use any oufit example if your into lore friendly can use lorefriendly armor mods but if your more  into fun stuff then there is the armor mods can not say what you like but what i said about alll the follower mods do what you want in like 5 secs AFT like maybe 3 secs other than typing in the command if you wanted her as a follower with perks then the three i said do all that. Though custom voice like from or other follower mods do not many there if your into a custom follower. Then might as well get a custom one made already aela is pretty much nothing compared to the follower mods made.  The most recommended I do know the most popular are Inidgo then the top one on nexus because of the features of the mod.  My personal favorite of all though in any mod is serana many mods for her. 

 

Though another one i use is aurora and twilight no not that book related she uses about any body type has a mix options very good voice acting easy to get and on and on main thing is you can make her about as any way you want vampire were wolf 4 types of hair and any body mod i know is used for that. The voice of the person doing that sound better than the one everyone talks about the only one I like more is the actress who does work on Intresting npcs. She is talented in general though if your looking for that one do not do any real evil things. Depends the thing i mean is the quest in markath the dwemer city in the burial grounds nohting else said there,  But is one of the reacently released rogue modes on nexus in companion there is another like her looks alot lke the follower that she voices but is not her do not know the names but one of them Sophia. But other than that tested out about every follower mod. One though i will mention is Hoth though never got him working in general though heard lots of good things. Maker of the immersive weapons and armors mods made him.

I haven't read through the books above, but you need to create an outfit in the CK and add the clothing items you want to it. Putting clothes into her inventory doesn't work by itself.

Yeah, I did that (create an outfit), and on most people that works but for some reason not on her.  I can change what is in the outfit she comes with and that is reflected in game (like if I add things to her draugurfornondraugurnohelmet or whatever it's called), but actually opening up the actor and changing the default outfit has no effect, she'll still equip whatever is in the draugurfornondraugernohelmet outfit.

You're editing this default outfit? Try setting it to something that isn't your custom one. Make sure your plugin is set to active, and make sure you're saving it.

Yeah.  Well, my current solution is just to put things in that outfit, although it creates a situation with other users (female ones at least) wearing a dress.

 

I've tried with a custom outfit, and like I said in my OP I tried just putting a chef outfit on her (nothing custom about it), and under no circumstances would she not put on the draugur outfit instead.

 

As far as I know, there aren't any other mods directly affecting her, although I don't know why that would matter anyways because I'm loading my mod last.

If i'm not mistaken, Aela's outfit is controlled by a script (because she's a werewolf). So I think you'll need to change the outfit in whatever script controls her transformations.

Hmm... that makes sense.  Aaaaand... crap.  That's above my pay grade.  I'll spend some time poking around the scripts to see if I find anything.
