Yet another load order problem

Hello, everyone. Longtime lurker of the forums here, and I very much appreciate the generous contributions of all the talented modders that have gathered here over the years.

 

And now that the brown nosing is out of the way, I'll get to the crux of the issue.

 

My old external hard drive basically committed suicide, so I needed to buy a new one. I lost countless hours of work modding my Oblivion into a gruesome and perverted Frankenstein's monster worthy of the name "Detroit". I have recently reinstalled Oblivion on the new hard drive, and I decided to install just a few mods to begin with, but I'm already running into trouble. Most of these have been race or body mods and Lovers mods. I've been doing everything just as I remembered how, checking requirements and combing the forums here for a proper load order example. 

 

I've had to reinstall Oblivion several times since I started. Upon running the freshly installed Oblivion.exe, everything works fine. But once I invalidate the archives and launch it all through OBSE, I can no longer start a new game. Everything will load fine up until the opening cutscene. Once the scene ends, the game immediately stops responding and crashes back to the desktop.

 

I'm hoping that someone here will be able to assist me in figuring out just where exactly I'm going wrong. I thank you in advance for your time.

With such a short MOD list first thing I'd do is download BOSS and compare LO placement of those MODs to the masterlist, followed by the recommended LO for Lovers MODs here on LL. That gets LO issues somewhat out of the way. (Get Notepad++ as it will allow you to review the masterlist with line numbers, which makes placing MODs in proper order much easier.)

 

Next, what versions of these MODs are you using? Since it is a new hard drive I'd consider updating to the latest, but that's just me.

 

Which version of OBSE are you using?

 

How are you completing your Archive Invalidate, OBMM or other?

 

You can also check some of the generated files (txt, ini) in your Oblivion data folder and game folder for clues or insight into why it is crashing.

 

Make sure you have run TES4Edit on dirty MODs.

 

If and when you get this Oblivion build working, preferably with cleaned MODs, I (and others) recommend creating a save of that core build. That way you can do Oblivion setups much more easily in the future.

If you have Oblivion CD Version you start the game with obse_loader.exe . If you have a Steam Version you start it with Oblivion.exe (Steam must be active). Read the OBSE readme which  OBSE dll files you must install (CD or Steam Version)

 

Perhaps delete your Oblivion INI ( in My Documents\myGames\Oblivion ) and let the game create a new one.

 

Don't use a old save after you reordered your Mods.
