Not satisfied with textures (_n maps problem)

I have finnally got my oblivion all modded up after feeling the oblivion play high. But now I am having a slight issue with the textures, they don't look weird but they are not as detailed as they are in screens I saw on the skinset's page.

 

So I have HGEC with F-INevOblivion skinset for EC and HGEC and I use EVE HGEC Eyecandy Variants Expansion to have all the clothing "fit" the skins. I used Wrye Bash to install these along with various other mods.

 

My problem is that the F-INev Textures are not as "detailed" as they look in many of the screen shots on the mod page.

So ya a HUGE difference. I know I installed the textures correctly because the hair is the same as the one that I edited using the bonus pack. It looks dull and un-detailed on NPC's aswell. So I am thinking it is a meshe issue.

 

I have large textures on, I have BSA redirection enabled (using obmm), I looked at it with x6 AA and no real change.

Some various questions not related to main post.

 

Do I have do touch archiveinvalidation stuff if I am using BSA redirection? Example: a few mods gave me archiveinvalidation.txt and told me to put it in data / make changes to the one already in there and I didn't do that because I am using BSA redirection.

 

Is CBASH safe to use and I won't have any problems or should I stick with normal BASH patch? I know that CBASH is just a optimized BASH patching written in C instead of Python.

I did and edited the base with all the settings I wanted (note the hair in the screens) but the mod authors screens show the skin being alot more detailed compared to the results I am getting and it also looks nothing like whats in the texture I edited. I am talking details here. I can't see the details in the vagina nor the nips or anywhere else on the skin, the skin outside game in photoshop looked great but inside the game it looks unrefined and most of the major details are barely distinguished.

 

Almost every screenshot on the F-INEV mod page shows alot higher quality detail than what I am getting and I have the same problem with Ozmo's High Rez Skin Textures for HGEC.

In the Bonus Pack are 5 differend genitals (pussy) and 5 different nipples and 3 belly Buttons.

glossy & matte Alphas for the normal map (the normal map gives the texture structure so it looks not so smooth as in your Pictures)

 

All I can say it is not a mesh Problem.

What resolution do you use in the game?

 

And most Pictures are PhotoShoped, Contrast, lighting, sharpness.

I only use Paint.net and that is not good for normal Maps.

I can make pubic hair and areola not looks flat and Scratches looks like Scratches not only painted stripes.

My Skin structure is not very detailed, looks more like your Pictures.

 

But Skin Normal Maps are translucent ( open the base normal Map in the F-IN evOblivion.7z)

The full Color Normal Maps are used for Objects.

Perhaps someone with Photo Shop knowledge can help you.

I have had this problem before but with a diff texture replacer a long time ago. (one of my first times installing mods) I some how fixed it when I reinstalled all the texture mods on a clean oblivion. Now I shouldn't have that problem with this setup since I am using wrye bash. I might try deleteing my character meshes and textures folder and annealing everything back in. See if that works.

 

Edit: Ya that didn't work either. It seems like the n_maps are not being initialized or something. Because it basically looks like I put a skin on a completely smooth character. But the maps have the roughest settings available just to see if it fixes it (which it doesn't). So is there any reason n_maps wouldn't get loaded or is there any way they would get replaced (maybe my bsa redirection isn't working correctly, don't know how to tell).

Oblivion.esm must be activated it is the master file for all esp. And without Oblivion.esm you don't have a world, races, NPCs,Character Generation, quests, objects.... your game can not start without Oblivion.esm.

 

If you use BSA redirection with OblivionModmanager or Wyre Bash the game use the textures in the Folders. And in the "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" are no HGEC textures.

Oblivion textures are legfemale.dds, upperbodyfemale.dds, handfemale.dds and footfemale.dds. And if the game use the original footfemale_n.dds for the HGEC footfemale.dds you will see it. (you could unpack the Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa and delete the race textures and pack the bsa, so the game can not use wrong textures. But that really should not be necessary )

And if the game does not load the _n.dds you also see it, your Skin will look dark/black in game.

I didn't see it mentioned above. What are your graphic card settings? Oblivion in-game settings can be ignored or overruled by what your graphic card settings dictate, especially if you can setup a game profile using graphic card management software that may have come with it.

 

I don't use these textures as I prefer Ozmo's, which IMO are superior. If you are getting the same results with both hi rez texture packs I'd look to my Oblivion settings and graphic card settings.

 

As far as CBASH, it depends. Based on memory alone I do recall there being some issues with it, but I think it was with the later versions of WB. The performance difference IMO between C and Python is insignificant. At least in my very early testing years ago, so I have always used a normal or vanilla bashed patch. That performance could become more noticeable as you increase MOD count, but I've not tested it lately.

Turns out it was my mipmap settings in my graphics card control panel settings. So I was seeing mipmaps of like a 256x256 texture instead of the 1024x1024. Thank you all who helped me.

 

Future note: Check your graphic card settings if you have problems like this.
