!cky Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I apologize for having to ask this but I haven't really kept up on Skyrim modding, especially with the foreign mod community. So, my question is... Has anyone increased the polygon count on the vanilla head mesh or perhaps created / ported a higher polygon mesh yet? I'm of the opinion that the head is one of the most important parts of the character. It pains me a bit to see that nobody (to my knowledge) has really done anything to fix the blocky low polygon heads from vanilla. They just looks so ugly.
Handelo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Changing the head model would probably require the most work out of any body mod. Because every part of the face is modeled and saved separately (as a .nif or .tri file), you would have to resculpt not only the main head mesh, but every possible morph as well to fit to it - meaning every nose, eye shape, mouth, chin, jaws, brows and cheeks would have to be re-made - not to mention height and size morphs for each (where applicable). So far no modder has had the will to undertake such a momentous task
iz Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 JP actually did at least edit the head mesh. It's a lot more asian and looks pretty bad in my opinion. You can find information about it here someplace. "mochi mochi" something. http://sky.lv-up.info/

I was commenting on making the head higher poly - which would be considerably more difficult. And those MochiMochi girls look waaaaay out of place in the game. What those Japs won't do to get Jap characters lol.
iz Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 AH, I see. Yeah they do look pretty bad but presumably it will continue to be worked on. I guess you can edit the face but you can't add new polys to it? Is that the problem?

[/quote'] Exactly, adding new polys will change the vertex IDs, which in turn will mess up any morphing done to the mesh, and might also give issues with the skinning, so all the parts will have to be re-meshed, re-fitted and re-skinned. Higher poly bodies were easier since you only needed to remake the hands and feet to fit. The head's a different story .
!cky Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Yeah, I kinda figured the way character creation works in Skyrim versus Oblivion had a lot to do with it. I mean, I knew it was a lot of work just because of having to re-animate it and everything but I completely forgot about the other part. In that case it seems like we're going to be using the vanilla heads for a while.

!cky Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30 That only changes the normal map portion of the textures. It has nothing to do with the head mesh. Thanks though.
