Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hi all! Sorry for bugging you but, I'm about to throw my PC out the window! I'm trying to install Oblivion xLovers onto my steam version of the game. I've downloaded the base files + all the required plugins but I can't get it working! That's before I start adding the actual Lovers stuff that I want... Any ideas? I'm starting to wonder is it happening because I'm using the steam version of the game but i'm not entirely sure...
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 The steam version will work just fine with lovers however the problem may be where you install steam. Taking a wild guess you are running Vista or Win7 and installed it into the program files directory, right? If so UAC is what is kicking your tail. My advice is to move steam out of there or turn UAC off while you play oblivion. To move steam (and no you don't have to uninstall/reinstall your games!) just follow the directions here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 To turn off UAC it varies if it is Vista or Win7 but just google it and list your operating system and it will pull up the microsoft site telling you have to quickly disable/enable it. If none of the above applies then try posting your load order via OBMM (hit import/export then view load order and then copy/paste it here). Please use spoilers when posting load orders Spoiler code: {spoiler} Paste or type here {/spoiler} Now substitute [] for the above {} and you have a spoiler
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Thanks! I had an old copy of Oblivion GoTY Edition laying around. Installed and trying modding that but no deal. As soon as i boot up the program, it gives me an errors and closes. I haven't tried turning UAC off however so I'll get on that one now :3
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Now after using a clean install and adding OBMM and OBSE with Pluggy and SKSE - there's an error there somewhere o.o
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Wait, SKSE?????? That is only for skyrim and NOT oblivion!
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 So, why the fuck did I install the SKSE? xD I'm reinstalling now, let's try without it. I have downloaded a lot of files over the past couple of days!
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 No worries, happens to the best of us To make sure you are working only enable the core files for now (including the shivering isles expansion and official dlc's). And are you using OBMM to start or using OBSE's loader directly? EDIT: You only need to delete SKSE and you should be fine....no need to reinstall everything.
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 I've just reinstalled everything but, Oblivion still doesn't work. So, now I'm out of Ideas... Skyrim works perfectly on High but Oblivion fails o.o
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Ok, how are you starting it and what have you installed besides the game itself?
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Just opening Oblivion GOTY Edition using the standard exe - no mods or anything. Steam version has been uninstalled also.
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Ok, Install the below: 1. OBSE: http://obse.silverlock.org/ 2. OBMM: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 (your choice on the manual or install version of 1.1.12) After installing open OBMM and make sure that oblivion.esm is the 1st file (top of the list - if it isn't just left click and drag it up there). Then make sure all other dlc and shivering isles are also enabled and hit "launch oblivion" this will automatically launch the game via OBSE.
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Ok' date=' Install the below: 1. OBSE: http://obse.silverlock.org/ 2. [/quote'] Right, trying to get it to work without mods first. I have never had this much trouble in the past >,<
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Yea, something is going on here. It may be best to reinstall the game outside of the program files directory just to make sure. Like C:\Games\Oblivion or on a second drive.
Uriel Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 You can't run Oblivion without mods? Mayhaps, it's something like old Oblivion configs somewhere in "Your Documents"?
gregathit Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Good point. Try deleting the oblivion.ini file in documents\my games\oblivion\ the game will make a new one when you restart.
Korinu Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Gentlemen, you're a pair of fucking geniuses
gregathit Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Yea' date=' we know that already. [/quote'] ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!
Dreamer102 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I've just reinstalled everything but' date=' Oblivion still doesn't work. So, now I'm out of Ideas... Skyrim works perfectly on High but Oblivion fails o.o [/quote'] Lol, that's typical of oblivion. I can run every game on high EXCEPT oblivion for some reason... Lameass Bethesda coders....

Skyrim works perfectly on High but Oblivion fails o.o [/quote'] Lol, that's typical of oblivion. I can run every game on high EXCEPT oblivion for some reason... Lameass Bethesda coders.... I can run Oblivion on High perfectly fine... until I start adding mods. Gotta keep in mind this game was made back in the days that multi-core CPU's weren't very common yet, so they never took advantage of them. Newer games do. Also, the game can be played with a gazillion mods, but it was never designed for that so you can't really complain when you overload the poor bugger and it can't keep up.
Dreamer102 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 YEah...you speak the truth. I have become complacent with running the game on medium and having my mods with it crashing every hour or so of play-time. It's good enough for me....for now.
Mavado Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Is Oblivion not working at all? Even with an unmodded installation? If so, then it is likely your PC has an unsupported graphics card. Back when I first obtained Oblivion, I couldn't get it to work on my main PC at that time, turns out, it was an issue with the graphics card not supported, I got it to work on an even weaker PC (because it had the right card) but the game was extremely laggy and I had to use a special exe to disable all shaders, Soon after, I purchased a new PC, making sure it contained the right type of graphics card.
