Backwards Lighting Issue With Custom Armour

Recommended Posts

I successfully converted an armour over, but the only issue now is that some meshes of the armour have backwards lighting. Is there a way to change the direction of the lighting?

I've uploaded some pictures for reference.

When I stand in front of the fire, the shoulder and skirt pieces light up instead of darken. In normal lighting the front lights up and the shoulder and skirt pieces are dark.

Can I simply rotate the mesh in 3ds max? Would this fix the issue?

This happened to me too with my current WIP, and has been bugging me for two days - I've encountered it before, but couldn't for the life of me recall what the fix was.

Here is the solution:

In Nifskope, RIGHT CLICK on the NiTriShape which is showing the problem in game, and select -> Mesh -> Face Normals. That's it.

Other advised methods for fixing this problem in 3d-modelling prgrams (eg: 3dsmax and the "Mirror" modifier) usually involve discussions about flipped UVs and/or normals and adding modifiers, but if your armour & its textures look fine in 3dsMax, the above NifSkope fix should be all you need to do. For reference, I have just applied this fix to the problem I had, and it is 100% solved. ^_^
