Ecchiluvr Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I'm making a lot more topics in here than I originally planned on... Anyway! Since my NPC's inventory gets cleared out anytime I exit the CK, start Skyrim, etc., I want to know if I can combine all the pieces of mods I want to use into one outfit that will show up in the "Default Outfit" dropdown menu on the Inventory tab. Can it be done, or at least something similar? Or a logical next step would be to ask how I keep my character's inventory from emptying. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 To make a mod using items from other mods in the Creation Kit the mods you are taking items from have to be an ESM not an ESP. You can get around this by using Wrye Bash and ESMify the mods with items you want to take items from. The CK will then see these as an ESM and not lose any references when you save your mod. If you want to make a custom outfit for your follower you need to make 2 things: 1- A leveled list containing all the armor items you want them to use. Check the box so it uses all the items in it or they will only get 1 random item. 2- An outfit list containing the leveled list you made. Create the list and drag your leveled list into it. After that, open the follower, go to the inventory tab and change the outfit to the one you made. After you are done you can ESPify the mods you ESMified earlier. You will need to reESMify them if you go in to make changes again later.

But i'm relatively new to the Creation Kit, please bear with me, so creating a Bash Patch will essentially combine all the bits of armor I want in the outfit and allow me to load it into the CK? Edit: Answered my own question. I'm still confused though, what do you mean by "Outfit list"?
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 An Outfit List is a list that contains all the armor or clothes for an NPC. You can find the outfit for an NPC on the Inventory Tab of the NPC up at the top: The dropdown list to the left is where you select the outfit the NPC will use, the items are shown on the right. The outfit list is made by either dragging the individual items into it or a leveled list. You can create new ones easily but Wrye Bash can't do anything with them in the Bashed Patch. For a new leveled list, you add the items you want in it. Since this would go into an Outfit list only Clothing or Armor or other worn items can go into it. Also you would check the Use All box to the upper right.

Veladarius Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Wrye Bash won't do anything with outfit lists in the Bashed Patch or any changes done to the NPC. If the NPC you are making is completely custom you won't have any problems. If you are changing an existing NPC it can clash with any mods that also change the NPC.
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Also, you can create random outfit sets. Make a Leveled list for each complete outfit (as above) then make another Leveled List and put the other lists you made into it (don't check the Use All box or they will get them all) and put this list into the Outfit List. When the npc is first loaded or whenever they reset it will pick another outfit.

Is there something i'm missing perhaps? Anything else I can do?

If not you probably didn't ESMify the other mods before you added them. The CK is very picky about this, it will let you do everything you want and then when you save and exit it won't keep the links to the items from those mods. Before Min changed the Integration to using an ESM I had to ESMify it while building For the Masses and Captured Dreams. A way you can fix your ESP is open it along with the mods you used items from in TES5Edit. Look at the items you added in your ESP and they will probably show a bad link, you can reselect the items there. This way is a little tougher than the CK but you don't need to ESMify the other mods.
EternalDamned Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 You can also combine several clothing/armor mods using TES5Edit with a TES5Edit mod merging script available on Nexus. Then use CK to mix-n-match to your hearts content as new outfits. The script comes with easy to understand instructions included in the download. I would recommend using wyrebash to esmify your esp after the merging if you plan to extensively alter npc looks later, then you can simply use your newly created ESM as a master/resources for your later mod and not have to worry about having to start from scratch if you mess up modding npc's.

Just so I have an alternative option, i've seen a few people mention that an outfit (one such as i'm trying to make here with mods) can be done solely through the CK but it takes considerably longer. Is that correct?

Is that correct? You can recreate the items in the CK within your new ESP. Armor in Skyrim has two parts, the Armor and the Armor Addon and both need duplicated. The Armor has all the stats and such while the Armor Addon points to the Meshes that it uses. To recreate the items in your mod you will need to do the following: 1- Duplicate all the Armor and Armor Addon parts for the items you want to use. 2- Rename the duplicates to something that will be a bit easier to use 3- Open the Armor item, in the Models box to the lower right you will see the Armor Addon listed there, change it to the one you made. 4- You may have to reselect the Meshes in the Armor Addon but I don't think so. You will need to keep the Meshes and Textures of the items in place if you uninstall the original mods. 5- Repeat 3 and 4 for each item set Since these are part of your mod the others are not needed as a Master file, you just need the Meshes and Textures. Once you are done you can go up to File then select Create Archive to create a BSA for the mod which will collect all the Meshes And Textures used for you into it.
EternalDamned Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 If you are trying to use things from several clothing/armor mods and combine them yes. I combined 50+ clothing/armor mods into one massive resources mod then created outfits, then made it a master for my npc modding. And yes it's the merge plugins script. It works great for armor mods and even hairs and eyes. Don't try to use it for merging complex mods though, it doesn't do leveled lists etc. Just remember to use tes5edit to delete out the things you don't want. Such as "cells" some mod makers add to test their clothing in a small room or chests all over tamriel. If you want you can do one chest with your combined assets afterwards and not have a dozen cells altered. Much less likely to have conflicts with other mods that way. PS: @Veladarius mods of them will have 4 things you need to duplicate. Forgot the recipe to forge it and the recipe for tempering.
