Spectre_15 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Speedrunning has become almost a sport in video gaming, and most people have either like or hate them. Â While some people feel that speed runs ruin the game, by breaking the game and playing it in ways that exploit programming limitations and unforeseen game-breaking glitches, where as others feel that abusing these glitches actually takes more skill and shows the runner as a better gamer than just playing the game casually. Â What is everyone's feelings on speedrunning? Â Are there any games that you guys speed run?
Guest Omega1084 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I love 'em. You seen AGDQ? This year was o.o  Do you like TAS runs?  I used to attempt running Metroid Prime but never really submitted anyway. Same with a few other games.

Guest Omega1084 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Sweet x] I was just watching that Mario64 one-handed run.That was crazy I was watching it with a constant O-O I could go into my old library of games and I could probably run Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis. I know that game perfectly, dunno how fun it'd be to watch though.

Spectre_15 Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Another game I want to get into running is Doom 2, but I dont think that Brutal Doom has a recognized category yet. Â However, I'm working on UV Max with it, but goddamn, beating Brutal Doom 2 without dying once and killing all monsters (including lost souls, which arent counted in vanilla Doom, but do count toward your percent in Brutal) is just fucking brutal. Â Pun not intended.

Spectre_15 Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 I dont know who Peaches is xD, name sounds familiar but I can't think of the runner. Â Only Doom runners I can think of are Rizera and Dime, the latter of which only does UV Fast as far as I know.

Guest Omega1084 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Yeah, the first one. The second one is a lot harder to run for me. Probably the added ammo management and a few other little things that make it harder for me for some reason.

Guest Omega1084 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I'm trying for 100% It's more fun to route and there's a lot of really creative skips that I never would've figured out casually. Plus, it's the easiest to run since by the end you are basically unkillable.

Â For example, I hate Any% OoT, because its just too short and boring, but I lost MST or 100%. Â Majoras Mask, my favorite Zelda game, is one that I can ONLY 100%. Â What are your favorite runs to watch?
Guest Omega1084 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 My favorites are 100% but I do watch any% runs of certain games just to see the huge skips they do and how they work. Like for example that new Wrong Warp in OoT is really weird and fun to watch but most games do get boring to watch runs of if it's too short. Like a Low% Metroid 1 run is terrible to watch but 100% is pretty entertaining.So yeah, for the most part 100% for some any%/low% for the hell of it. Like Dragondarch's Metroid: Zero Mission on low% and on Hard Mode.

But, I may occasionally watch a video of someone do a speedrun.  One speedrun that comes into my mind right now is some dude doing Half-Life. I think he did both games (not the episodes, but the full games) I were pretty impressed with it. DespairSyndrome Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I watched a Skyrim speedrun before and it was a really strange experience. Beating Alduin in an hour and a half and technically "finishing" Skyrim appeared to me to miss the point of the game.

You're supposed to run speedily.. that's the whole point, not to soak in the lore and taste the ground textures. .-. People do speedruns for a lot of different reasons. I do it after I've beaten the game a few times and want to see just how good I am at it. Others do it to see how much they can break a game. Some do it to race their friends.
