Updated BOSS; now it refuses to launch

Try the installer version, I got the same problem when I was using the archive. Installer version will install all the necessary components and it works fine for me.

The Boss team provides all the versions for download.

I can't personally say I have your problem, but the "new" 2.2 worked really well for me, and I'm sure it worked well for plenty of others, but If your having problems they provide every build they have ever worked on for download (I believe all versions still work with the masterlists)

Also, keep in mind that BOSS is no longer actively developed (masterlists are frozen) and the team has switched over to building LOOT, I'm running the BETA version, and for the most part it works well and better than BOSS in some cases for me, so maybe try the beta if you want:

I just try BOSS 2.2.0, after fix that MSVCP/R120.dll requirement it work like a charm.

However, LOOT seem to be different.  I am not sure how it re-order mod but it put sexlab.esm above update.esm and messing all other mods order.
