So i took the Had from my other computer which ad oblivion installed on it and moved it into my new computer.    When i run OBSE loader i get the loading screen and then the game crashes.  The error says its the oblivion.exe causing the crash.  It worked before i  moved the HD though.  SO what could it be?

So you essentially just moved the data to a computer without any oblivion related installs and without setting up the load order and expect it to magically work?

No, I moved the entire HD.  It worked with FNV so figured it would work for Oblivion.

so not in the mood to do a complete reinstall at the moment.  I'm sure its going to come to that.  /sigh

delete oblivion.ini in /my games/oblivion

Might also be driver issues, graphics config, or whatever.

Oblivion IS portable. The registry settings are really only ever needed, if one wants to install an application that wants to know where oblivion is located. The loadorder also does NOT change, because it is determined by the date of files. Which ESMs and ESPs are enabled and disabled, is however stored in the registry, so if you move oblivion from one loc to another, you need to enable mods again.

What is certain, is that this is NOT a mod or loadorder or registry issue. It's either oblivion.ini, or something else outside of oblivion - like drivers and stuff.... or perhaps the OS, if you changed OS versions. I have no idea how well oblivion runs on Win7/8, since i'm done with MS (XP is end of the road of windows, for me).

..............

Here's a really stupid idea: Check if oblivion.esm is enabled >.>

When I tried using Oblivion wth Win7 x64 it would crash the first time I tried to start it. I then use the "windowed mode" and it would start. Later after a couple of starts I returned to the "full window" mode and it worked ever since. Don't know if it is just an issue I had or if it is part of Windows 7 issues. If you are using Windows 7x64 it might be worth a try. Wont' harm anything and can always be returned back.
