Having issues with SKSE

I have the most current version of SKSE installed, and it has been running fine for the past month or so up til later today when it suddenly and apparently decided to stop working. I can load Skyrim through Steam (of course then everything that relies on SKSE to be running doesn't work), but when I click on the link to load the game through SKSE after what fells like 5 minutes the game finally starts to load then a message appears saying that Skyrim has stopped working.

Is anyone else having this issue? How should I address this problem?

Well, you could try reinstalling SKSE.

Maybe some file has changed and it's bugging it out.
Likewise, it could also be an SKSE plugin making things not work.

now this is strange because the steam.dll is not in the skyrim folder this makes me think that it is a problem with the steam client it's self.

I tried reinstalling SKSE (deleted all files, and reinstalled it using the installer on the offical web page) but I'm still having the same issue. As far as a conflicting mods I haven't installed anything new that seems to have caused the issue, it worked fine erlier today, and then just randomly stopped working. I'm wondering if the problem was caused by an update from Steam, maybe some kind of compatability issue..

I just uninstalled all my mods and it worked, this is very strange because tes5 edit loaded it fine. Try running tes5 edit on yours and see what happens.

Figured it out through trial and error it's sexlab uninstall sexlab and it works but this obviously isn't an option so maybe cracking your skyrim will work.

I tried uninstalling and reinstaling EVERYTHING, that didn't work. Next I cleaned the master files using TES5 Edit (I'm ASSUMING that's what you meant), still nothing. Lastly I tried uninstalling the latest version of SKSE and reinstalling the previous (older) version, still nothing.. I'll try uninstalling sex lab and seeing if that is the issue.

What do you mean by "cracking skyrim"?

I uninstalled all files that had to do with sexlab (including sexlab its self), I have noticed two changes since doing that; the first difference was it took away the error message that said skyrim has stopped working, and now instead the game loads up faster than before, goes through the Bathesda logo screen, then the dragon icon appears, and then the game promptly crashes to desktop, the other difference it made is now I also can't start the game through Steam either, it just does the same thing as described above before crashing to desktop................. I guess now the only thing left is to go through the pain in the ass process of uninstalling all of my mods and slowly reintroducing everything untill I find the issue(s). FML

Alternatively you could just disable them one by one till you find the culprit.

When the game crashes like that it usually means that a Master is missing and the mod requiring it is trying to load it but since it can't find it it just crashes.

You don't have to take everything out, just one by one till the right one is found. Then you can assess the situation and act accordingly.

Edit: I'm sorry I haven't been around to help, I've had a shit day ._.'

Can't help with your master files issue, but once you deal with that, make sure to add -notimeout to the launch properties of your SKSE shortcut.

And be sure to post the sauce for your avatar, if there is any. That tends to help deal with CTDs.

"make sure to add -notimeout to the launch properties of your SKSE shortcut" how do I do that?

Sauce for my avater is a picture of some topless chick I found on the internet and added elf ears to in Photoshop for fun, it's a custom job in other words. The chick's name ecapes me at the moment.. If I read that correctly.

Also all of my mods are installed manually, so "turning them off one by one" isn't an option for me unfortunately. Speaking of which I meanged to install only the mods I really cared about (unfortunately levaing out my sex mods since they seemed to be the initial source of the CTDs I was getting) and now the game boots up and lets me load a save game.. right into an infinate load screeen, even if I try to load a game where I'm in a building I still get an infinate load screen.. I even have less mods installed now than I did before, also the mods I do have installed require less resources than before, so I don't know what the issue is there.

The -notimeout trick may or may not fix your issue, but it's something you should use when modding elder scrolls games regardless. Right click your SKSE shortcut, go to the end of the address bar in properties, type -notimeout outside the quotes at the very end.

Thanks, I made the changes to my SKSE shortcut. I FINALLY managed to get past the infinate load screen issue as well, it turns out it was being caused by an armor mod I forgot to add back into my Skyrim Data folder that my charicter was wearing berfore in the save game I was trying to load.. wups. Hopefully at some point I will be able to reintroduce the sex mods, but for now, I think I'm good with just being able to play the game again.

Thank you all for the help and advice!

I'm having the exact same problem. I am assuming that steam changed something, so I am just going to play it without all the goodies and hope someone with more knowledge can come up with a solution.

PS. Really frustrating though...
