Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 OKay, I figure this is a very good topic of discussion that needs to be included here beause there's one on the Nexus Forums, but that isn't a place most of us go to spill text, so I figured why not create one here so we can exchange opinions and interest about it. I know there are those that don't like the idea of a restoration. And there are those that do. I've read this back and forth many times. I'm in between. But to be truly honest, I would side with restoration as in time Mother Earth is bound to restore herself. Do we truly know how Mother Earth would react after a nuclear war after 200 years? Well, there's a video that talks about this and it's happening. Happening quicker than 200 years from a devastation. http://youtu.be/6XDbcMND7fY It's a long video. It's a really good documentary, though. Other interesting videos thanks to carywinton http://youtu.be/dpVNBQqOWV4 If possible, lets keep this mature. If you disagree with someone else's comment just state why without going overboard and calling each other idiots and stupid face and any sorts of flaming or bashing. This is a topic worth of discussioning All opinions are validated since we all do not share the same opinion. Even if we do like the same things. And also keep in mind that I'm not generally speaking for Fallout 3. There is restoration in Fallout New Vegas. And lets keep out the difference between both worlds and which one is more wastelanderish than the other. It's already been discussed with my share of ranting of it. Again, lets keep it civil so it doesn't go nose diving into the Locked section. So what do you think? Would you like to see a restoration in a future Fallout game? If not, why? Every opinion counts as long as it's constructive.
Contessa Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I'm not sure I would, at least not in any advanced sense. The world of Fallout to me is a character in itself, if it became "normalized", I think I would be less able to get into it. May not make much sense but I never was good at explaining things.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I wouldn't mind a balance in between. There has to be resources out there to survive on, but not enough for the growth of mankind expanding at a fast pace. I wonder how the Brahmins are surving if the vegetation in the capitol wasteland is supposed to be dead. And with Oasis, the expand of vegetation would continue over time so it's not one little patch greenful landscape. Which also makes me think if Oasis is the only area with green, it has irradiated water there so if animals were to migrate there for resources, they would be exposed by radiation, which would then cause cancer and kill you in the matter of months. You have to think that during this period of time, there isn't treatment for severe viruses, so one cannot go under therapy. It's just way too many people. But this is a game so it's imaginable to think that even if you consume radiation of small levels, you can still live a length period of time. So long as you don't get your head ripped off by a Deathclaw. One question I always ask myself is why they chose 200 years after the war instead of maybe 50 years? I think 200+ years after a nuclear devastation would in time restore a world once destroyed, but that again falls into imagination since it's a game. I wouldn't mind seeing a vegetation city ruin like maybe New York or Chicago or even Boston for that matter. As long as it's not exaggerated I guess. I myself still want to see areas that have been severely damaged. I still want to see debry.
Brigade Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 After 200 years, there wouldn't be much clutter left in the major cities. They would have been essentially refurbished. The capitol wasteland does make sense though, considering the constant war with slavers, raiders, and super mutants.
Guest carywinton Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 If you want to examine a real life situation and compare it to what things would be like 200 years later, the closest we have is the Chernobyl disaster or Fukushima Daiichi. The town of Pripyat is still disserted and this took place in 1986. This was considered a level 7 event, the highest level, so to put in perspective a global nuclear war and a 200 year time span, yeah I could still see serious radiation problems in the water supply of above ground systems and a slow recovery of vegetation. The stupid Brahmin will stand there grazing on concrete, so I would not find them to be a very good example, it surprises me that some aspects like this were just simply overlooked or ignored, definitely ruins emersion. I think I would have at least had them scripted with a simple script, graze here, not here. I think after 200 years some vegetation would definitely be returning in places other than Oasis, this place was basically "sheltered" from the fallout and such, to me it should have been quite a bit deeper in, again for more realistic aspect and emersion. Some effects of radiation obviously did take place there or you would not have "Herbert" or "Bob".
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Prypiat is mentioned in the documentary above. It's at 20 years after (when that was filmed). It's very interesting, yet very tragic story. I was 4 years old when that happened so I didn't know about it then. And it seems there is no returning to that city. At least not for a very long time.

Actually after reading this topic and posting to it, I went and looked at another video, which was a bit long as well, but quite good and it showed how the ecosystem there had been doing well in spite of the radiation, especially the wolves. There is a video called Radioactive Wolves, you might enjoy. The fact that people will not be able to return there for quite sometime, might be a good thing, it seems to have become a natural habitat for declining and rare species.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Okay, thanks. I'll browse on that. Edit: found it and found another similar. I'll post them in the main.
Spartan 363 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Another series similar to Life After People is the Aftermath series, particularly Aftermath: Population Zero, it has it where nuclear plants that meltdown because of loss of power and such and how the land around the plants would be a huge dead zones for centuries because the release of radiation would be FAR worse than any nuclear disasters today because not only are the fuel rods in the reactors going critical, you have all the spent rods inside the pools and such that would go critical as well because of the loss of cold water and the heat would vaporize whatever water is inside the pools. There are FAR more spent rods that would release lethal radiation than the ones inside the reactors. The nuclear plants would be like The Glow in Fallout's Texas where only mutants/ghouls could venture into for centuries or more. I would like balance as well, for example, I would love a new Fallout game that takes place a decade or so after the success of Project Purity and the Brotherhood of Steel finally taking out the Super Mutants in Vault 87 for good. With all that fresh water flowing, it could be possible that the entire river by then is purified and maybe even the entire Chesapeake Bay and parts of the Atlantic Ocean. Also, now that it's known that G.E.C.K's are needed for the purifier, in between Fallout 3 and the decade or so that passes by, the Brotherhood would have searched a much larger area like Baltimore and found other intact G.E.C.K's or even finally figured out how to manufacture them again and build other purifier machines throughout the Capitol region. I would like to see parts, if not most of DC rebuilt near Rivet City and green with fresh plants from the laboratory inside the ship. Since the XBOX One and PS4 can handle much larger worlds because of their 8GB's of RAM vs the 512MB last gen used, the Capitol Wasteland can even go further south to MCB Quantico and as far north as even Baltimore that still lay in ruins with the grey wasteland we are used too and the development of the game not being hampered like the old hardware did with Fallout 3/New Vegas/Skyrim. (PC usually gets crappy console ports like said games). I would also like to see large green forest spread around DC, perhaps from the result of Oasis finally getting easy access to fresh purified water and the Brotherhood building another purifier in the mountains where the Potomac River begins flowing from. Just imagine being able to play as the Lone Wanderer again, or even their child because by that time, the Lone Wanderer could be President of the rebuilt DC and the Brotherhood serving as his/her military to command and the scientist in Rivet City coordinating with brotherhood scribes to rebuilt everything and constructing new Purifier machines and even maybe restore the subway system in DC. So many possibilities from the aftermath of Fallout 3. The East could one day meet the west if Mr House took over New Vegas and focused on rebuilding like he planned to do. He would see that the Brotherhood in DC are actually helping the people and such and would be willing to trade and such with the DC region. I could honestly see the Mojave region connecting with the DC region and maybe even the NCR too. Mr. House would be surprised that the Brotherhood and Dr. Li were able to successfully to figure out the power trouble with Liberty Prime when Mr. Houses pre-war Robco Corporation and the US military couldn't figure out. The Lone Wonderer's new empire would actually end up surpassing the west and Mr. Houses efforts when said scientist from the East were able to figure out how to purify water on a massive scale and also Liberty Prime, who knows, the Lone Wanderer could have an army of new Liberty Primes built by then. Also, there could be a new war in the DC region in that the Commonwealth up north wants to take over DC and also the Legion is making it's way East after losing out west and slowly regained their numbers and strength.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I saw the 2nd episode of the documentary. I'll check that out. This is what I would like to see. I would like to see an introduction taking place on The Scouge mission that happened in The Pitt as a flash back memory. How it exactly happened. And from there it can lead to seeing The Pitt finally rising from the burning flames into a very strong forge. Finally getting this "cure" to work, but it's not as potent as they seemed it could be. Perhaps it could stable anyone infected from not mutating more than they are. I could actually picture Ashur creating a large army against the BOS in D.C. A line of new faction. Not ghouls. These would be half human and trog. Though, the fact you aren't a specific sex in generla as you have to choose in the FaceGen in game, it would be cool if you were actually Little Marie all grown up. Or have ties between the player and Marie. I can see a whole new line of Steel Power Armor as they do forge steel in the mill and have that whole steelyard.

I agree, even if you did kill him and such, the Commonwealth (the guys that built that runaway Android and the old man harassing Dr. Li) along with maybe the Enclave remnants from Chicago invaded the Pitt and it's forges to build a large army, but then you also have the blood-lusted Legion heading East with Legate Lanius leading the way with nothing but fiery and revenge on his mind to wipe out and conquer the east before taking another shot at New Vegas and the NCR. You could even have the Brotherhood of Steel from Texas and Chicago march in and that they want to wipe out the Brotherhood in DC like the Outcast wanted too because Elder Lyons turned a blind eye for the Brotherhood's original purpose and mission and would obviously be interested in all the tech like the purifier, Liberty prime and such to snatch from The Lone Wanderer's empire. Maybe even change the name of the DC Brotherhood into simply the Capitol Military to differentiate them from the other Brotherhood groups out in the wastelands. It could be a multi-sided war and would have me interested compared to NV not being as good as the plot in FO3 IMO. I also wonder how Facegen would work too, little Marie would be grown up, maybe part of the Lyons' Pride???
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I guess it couldn't work since the option of siding with him or killing is there. I used to side with Wernher for some time when I first started just because I never put much thought into that DLC. Saving slaves was the easy choice to me. It was because The Pitt was my least favorite DLC then, so I just wanted to shoot through it,instead of actually taking the time to put more thought into it. I decided to join Ashur and I wrote a comic of this explaining through my character why I chose the lesser side of evil. In my down right mind I understood what Wernher wanted and saving slaves seemed like the right thing to do, but when I held Little Marie in my arms I had a sudden moment and then snapped back to reality and put myself in Little Marie's shoes. All this ramble about the cure and saving the slaves, but what about Little Marie? So, I went from disliking that DLC to it being my favorite in Fallout 3. The main reason being is the choices you have to make and the options you have. Which ever one you choose affects the other and it marks you. That's one the stuff that makes a good RPG.
BoozeJunky Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I always just kind of assumed that the reason why the D.C. area is in such a bad way is because there were Chinese Saboteurs all over the place which were releasing chemical and biological weapons to kind of "Salt the Earth" of their enemies capital city. Sort of like Scipio did to Carthage. It would also make sense that in a world strapped for resources, you'd want to use less powerful nukes with higher radiation outputs (like a neutron bomb) which will leave the majority of structures and resources intact. Plus there's the whole propaganda angle that IF, for any reason, China were to pull through a nuclear exchange as a victor - it would be a huge coup for them to march on D.C. and raise their flag. Though it may not make much sense in the world left over after the war... from the relative comfort and safety of a pre-war world, these kinds of jingoistic plans aren't unheard of. Anyhow, I usually play through until the point where I help Harold spread his seed over the wastes (that doesn't sound right) and after project purity is turned on. Then I quit out, enable my greener/forested wasteland mods and enable my rain/storm weather options. So when I wake up from my coma in the citadel at the start of Broken Steel, it actually looks like my actions made a difference!
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm currently using Flora, but I'm debating on going back to Overgrown. They are both good.
Hentai-chan Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I am just throwing this out there but if there is to be a restoration, I truly doubt it would simply reset. I mean Earth is pretty much irradiated, right? Nature can spring life and still persist, and does, in a new form. Glowing with radiation. This new life, in turn, can bestow upon humans a new form, make them evolve. Into a more powerful and resilient form (not Ghouls, specifically). Because the prime objective of all life is survival. Survival is only possible through adaptation, from life's "perspective". No force, natural or cosmic, ever resets. They go on. Move forward knowing that it will eventually lead to their very end. For that is their nature. "Tiid bo amativ. Time flows ever onward." - Paarthurnax's first encounter with the Last Dragonborn
