Zinra Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Ive been reading Alot of the Tutorials on modding both Oblivion and Skyrim, and having some difficulty "seeing" what im doing.(Due to some links that are broken or point you into a general location expecting you to find what it is you need to have.) I have sketch books full of ideas i want to share in a 3D environment, and for others (as-well as myself) to enjoy and play with. (monsters, cloths, weapons, stores, events, ext) My biggest problem is not knowing, im a visual-Lerner and most of these tutorials don't offer a medium i need (lots of images or video) to really soke up the info offered. so far ive downloaded Blender, and Nifscope, as well as the little plug ins that were said i needed (which dint take.. probably cuz i had to use the "updaited " versions so they weren't compatible anymore) I fiddled around in both, but i don't REALLY know what im doing. Any helpful tips? [mini rant] (btw ive found that ALOT of the 'skimpy" armors / clothes are lacking in the visule apeal, other than showing more sin.. its like the majority of people just cut a big ass hole in the apparel to show more of the 'subject's' body and posting it. OR taking the Nocturnal clothes and pasting it on random sets of armor. or just making the females have HUGE brest and be done with it... really annoying i think. are the magority of ppl not putting any love into this stuff anymore or has everyone gone lazy? or is it really that much more difficult than i realize?..) [happy new year every one]

[happy new year every one] Well it is effing difficult, lol. I like....started a week ago with the modding business and I still don't understand a lot. Only finished importing one armor from oblivion to skyrim. And people aren't being lazy. It's just really hard for most of us to understand 3DSMAX, Blender etc. etc. It is mostly difficult (for me, dunno about others) to scale armors from oblivion to skyrim mesh and then try to move the arms into the position the skyrim skeleton is standing, since oblivion and skyrim use different skeletons. And I dunno any easy to understand guides, lol. I just watched almost all the videos and read through almost all the threads about 3dsmax, blender, importing stuff into skyrim etc. etc. LOL ._.
Render Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 From the looks of it your kinda jumping the gun. The first step would be to learn blenders user interface and how to navigate in 3D space. You won't get anywhere without a solid foundation to build upon. It's like wanting to be a doctor without going to medical school. Personally I don't use blender but I'm sure there are good tutorials out there. The creature factory one comes to mind though it's been a while.

I'm having some trouble getting my armors to distort as they should when moving them to skyrim.
DocClox Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 As far as blender goes: http://www.blender.org/education-help/tutorials/ There's a beginner's course there that says it has a huge number of video tutorials, so that might get you over the initial hump.

I'm having some trouble getting my armors to distort as they should when moving them to skyrim. Those incorrect distortions probably happen because of incorrect weighting, try to open another blender or 3ds max and open up a vanilla Skyrim armor as example. Then weightpaint the oblivion armor to make it look like the original one. To learn about weightpainting and weighting and all that stuff, go to youtube and type in weight painting tutorial or something like that.

Ill take your advice, and focus on blender by itself xp dose seem like the better idea now that i take a step back. thanx ^^/

[/quote'] Yeah, I figured that out, thought there was a bit more voodoo involved. My first atempts failed miserably, now it atleast exported. I guess more trial and error untill I get it showing correctly in the game though Thanks for the answer. edit: Made it work now on to getting it to use the correct skin I'm a nub on so many levels.
Hawk_5544 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 If you where wanting to learn CG modelling and used Autodesk Max I could have helped you, however I see you downloaded Blender so this link below will probably be very useful for you. http://cg.tutsplus.com/category/tutorials/blender/ I'm afraid I can't help you more than that however as I've never touched Blender myself. Regards Hawk.

And that's why, I think that as in Oblivion, good clothes will be either a port of other games or IRL products, and, only in some rare cases, a real original beautiful new work.
