ElvenScoundrel Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 In my endless free time, I've been thinking about a mod I always wanted to do for myself, but I decided to share my idea, see if other members find it interesting or unique.  Thing is, NV has a lot of weapons, lots of ammo types, and there's hundreds of mods out there that add weapons to the game. Thing is, I'm a lorefag, as we're called in certain internet circles, so I usually don't use those guns, because they feel too out of place in my beloved Fallout setting.  There's relatively little info about Chinese, too. For being the Antagonists pre-war, we only know they used Chinese Assault Rifles, jumpsuits, pistols, swords and stealthsuits. Compared to how fleshed out the US army feels like with all the weapons used by 'em in the game, they do deserve a bit of love. I always wanted to add a few more chinese-style weapons, to further flesh out our good ol' Communist Chinese antagonists. Thus, here's my expanded Chinese Arsenal:  Chinese Para-SMG (Bizon PP-19) Ammo: 9mm Mods: Suppressor, Reflex sight, faster firing/more durability  Chinese Scout Rifle (K98 Kurz) Ammo: 7.62 Mods: Medium range scope, light weight stock, more damage (barrel?)  Chinese Combat Rifle (SVT-70) Ammo: 7.62 Mods: Ammo Capacity, reinforced internals, damage?  Chinese Anti-Mat. Rifle (M99) Ammo: .50MG Mods: rifled bolt (RoF), Reinforced receiver (durability), fluted barrel (damage? weight reduction?)  This is a WIP.  Most of these weapons already exist, made by modders. It would only take me many trips to GECK to tweak 'em the way I think they would fit their RL counterparts.
Cezul Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I'd like to see an SKS in there. I own one and IMO it's better than an AK and an AR. Has the AK's hard hitting 7.62x39 round and the AR's range/accuracy ( Â Â The above could be the base un-modded version... Original probably dried up, cracked wood stock, rusty reciever, loaded by 10 round stripper clips. Â Â This one would probably be the end result of all the mods attached. Glass filled nylon stock ( increases condition ), 20 round mags ( no more slow loading stripper clips. + ammo capacity ), New Reciever/Bolt ( + condition ). Maybe a Reflex sight? Or a vertical fore-grip to reduce recoil, idk. Â Â
Guest Loogie Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 The Chinese and their equipment never were really part of the Fallout setting. Don't know why Bethesda wanted to cram that down people's throats - when it made zero sense for these things to be in DC, and even less sense that they would be unremittingly hostile ghoul survivors (you'd think they would have integrated into society, which would have made for a richer story) - instead of dealing with classics like the AK-112 and FN-FAL.

[/quote'] Â If we take the Fallout Bible, as written by MCA, canon, Chinese invasion etc is canon. Proof here. Winter 2066. It makes sense that they would take their equipment with them on the invasion, no?
Guest Loogie Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 The American-Sino war is background and fighting was seen from, as President Richards put it, "... the Yukon to the Yang-Tze." The only US soil that ever saw Chinese ground troops, prior to Fallout 3's half-baked idea, was Alaska. As for the setting of Fallout itself - all the games occur post war - the only real Chinese involvement was the fact they're the ones who dropped the nukes. There is no reason for Chinese troops and their equipment to be in DC like Bethesda did it.
ElvenScoundrel Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 They didn't completely half-ass it. The chinese in DC aren't numerous, since they were spies and whathaveyou. You barely see them in DC as is, so they're not as invasive as one would think. It also makes sense to infiltrate DC. Â But the fact remains, they use Russian-themed weaponry. We need more.
Guest Loogie Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I agree we need more cold war era type weapons. I keep going back in my head to the AK-112, the original 5.56mm assault rifle in the first two games. It's retro and futuristic at the same time. Â Things like the assault carbine are cool, but ultra-modern.
ElvenScoundrel Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 The FO/FO2 assault rifle has an uncanny resemblance to the FAL/GALIL. I do like it a lot though. Â Cezul, I could probably substitute the K98 for the SKS. The tacticool version IMO is too modern for the 40-50's feel of Fallout, but that's just me. Â Funny thing is, I even thought of what the UK would use in the Fallout universe, and the first thing that came to mind was the L85, only to find out that it was in Fallout 2: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/XL70E3_(Fallout_2)
BlueSkyMine Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 One gun I miss having is the Hunting Rifle from Fallout and Fallout 2. Something about the blocky design sets it apart from NV's bolt-action guns and AR-10 derivatives. That and the thing was damn reliable when you got your hands on it. Â As for the OP, the choices aren't the greatest in my opinion. You don't need another AMR and there's plenty of bolt-action rifles in the game. The Bison is too new and funky in design, something like the Type 85 smg fits better. Looks rugged enough to survive post-apocalypse and fits nicely in gameplay as a two-handed smg. Â SKS as mentioned as a semi-auto plinker would fit and chuck in the ak-112 as your assault rifle. Make them 5mm since there's a distinct lack of weapons that use that ammo type.

I agree with all except this last bit. 5mm ammunition has never really been popular in the US compared to 7.62x39mm that the SKS uses so it makes little sense to switch.

Oh, I'm aware of that but the change is for the sake of playability. Having 7.62x39mm would mean needing a mod to add it to the game (since it isn't a vanilla caliber). Going 5mm also has the effect of players mentally sorting it into "AP semi-auto rifle" and separates it from the service rifle and the marksman carbine, makes it sufficiently different.
gregathit Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Ah...I think I see where you are going with that. Being as I have fook and caliberX running it is already in my game, but for those not using either or both of those mods this would make sense.
ElvenScoundrel Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 I always thought the 5mm round was a bit obscure, and it'd be more accurate if it was changed to 7.62. Still, those chambeed in 7.62 will be changed to 5mm.
