Need help with exporting .NIF with 3ds Max

As the title states, I'm having an issue with 3ds crashing upon trying to export a .nif.

The .nif is a pair of horns that are placed on the head mesh.

I have in my .nif at the moment is 3 objects, 2 horns and a head.

Now, what I've tried so far is attach the 2 horns together, then do the smooth>skin wrap>skin>BSdismemberskin modifier(selecting the head and making sure it uses the circlet slot).  The skin is attached to 1 bone(NPC Head [Head]).

No problem at this point, but when I try to export, 3ds crashes.

I've tried the same process on each of the horns separately then attaching them, but still no luck.

I have in the past imported, modified an armor mesh and exported the end product and not have a problem, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

But, I've never attached objects together either.

I figure that I'll need to use NifSkope before putting it in the game, but I'm still trying to get that far anyways.

Have you tried welding the vertices @ 0.01 ?

Does the horns have a material applied to them?

Try removing the material by
going to the utilities panel at the end

GUID-FF386D70-A178-4979-BF00-4AFB8289B8B

selecting "more" and then from the list select "UVW Remove Utility"

with the horns selected, click on "materials"

Try exporting again. If it works, you can apply the materials through nifskope.

Also try exporting without the head mesh, that is ofcourse if the head mesh is the Skyrim's vanilla head mesh.
