3dfman Posted Saturday at 03:54 PM Posted Saturday at 03:54 PM (edited) So I was curious as to how DLSS 5 would interact with nude mods. I've only tested Horizon Forbidden West so far, but plan to try a few more games that I have in my library. It is definitely a huge performance hit as it stands right now, but this is not the official release of DLSS5, so can't really hold that against them just yet. And even though you can achieve playable framerates with upscaling, it is too temporally unstable, image quality wise, for it to be used in real time imo. At least that's just what I can conclude by testing in HFW, in other games it might be working better and is more temporally stable. In still shots however, once the camera stops moving and you let the image "settle" it can achieve some interesting results. The most noticeable difference is definitely faces and the lighting of characters and the scene, but hair and skin does get quite a makeover as well. Make of them what you will. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW TO GET DLSS 5 MOD WORKING FOR YOURSELF: Go join RenoDX's discord server here https://discord.gg/renodx and check the "Tools" tab, there's a guide on how to install it depending on which graphics card you have. As of right now it only seems to be available on RTX 5000 and RTX 4000 Series cards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to share some of your DLSS 5 screenshots of nude mods in this thread. BUT PLEASE PUT THE PICTURES INTO SPOILER TAGS SO IT DOESN'T GET CLUTTERED AS FUCK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Horizon Forbidden West: First pictures is a direct comparison of DLSS 5 OFF/ON Spoiler DLSS 5 ON, Presets varying between "Default", "Natural", and "Cinematic". hornycopter Posted Sunday at 01:14 PM Posted Sunday at 01:14 PM (edited) Was interested in analyzing the difference, so for a more accurate comparison - made quick color correction of pure frame (the one with NO DLSS 5). I think what DLSS 5 is essentially do - is mixes image with new lighting on top of existing game frame. This new lighting can be characterized as "overcast day" or lighting from big softbox light at the ceiling of photo studio. Looks like Nvidia specifically trained their AI model for this lighting, because it was known even before that this type of lighting in 3D graphics is perceived to feel more realistic . The new lighting adds more ambient occlusion to ground-facing surfaces and increases highlights on sky-facing surfaces. Also looks like for better blend of all thing together inside one frame - new lighting is mixed with existing frame by AI in irregularly manner - some pixels change completely, some almost the same as before. AI I think also aware of light sources already existing in frame (judging by screenshots of other games) - it take them into account while creating extra ambient occlusion.  The only big inherent flaw with DLSS 5 (with static frames) that I see for now - it's constrained by info existing inside one frame (maybe 2-3 previous frames also). As we can see in example above - it almost completely ignores shadows (and highlights) on Aloy's body that were casted by sun at sunset from the rights side of the frame - DLSS 5 makes them almost disappear, because there is no light source existing on the right side inside the frame itself (or in few previous frames). Overall - amazing technology. None of simple runtime image manipulations can do something similar - it equivalents to 2-3 hours photoshop edit of single image lighting. And DLSS 5 now can do it in 20-30 ms with each frame of the game - insane! I almost certain It will replace all ReShade mods for sure, as most of creators of ReShade presets I think aim to achieve same "cinematic" look for photo mod - and DLSS 5 is ultimate tool for that. As for gameplay - it's not ready for that for now, in my taste. To much temporal artifacts, too big performance impact - I think it will be truly ready to use in gameplay maybe in three years.  Edited Sunday at 02:31 PM by hornycopter 5

In its current unofficial state there is still a lot to be desired, and as you say, in 2-3 years, probably when the next series of RTX cards will see the light of day is when DLSS 5 will truly shine. Incidentally, I'll probably not try out this modded version of DLSS 5 further, as I've seen enough, and because it is a tremendous hassle to get it working in various games. Shadow of the Tomb Raider definitely produced the most visually pleasing results, and it actually ran respectably in real time to my surprise, with minimal visual artifacts and temporal instability. VonRaschke Posted Tuesday at 09:43 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:43 PM lol it made Chloe Asian 🤣  Interesting thread, though. I wish this tech would just leave faces untouched.
Farolito Posted yesterday at 12:44 AM Posted yesterday at 12:44 AM Modders should take advantage of a loophole in DLSS 5 to add custom models to games that don't have any tools available for modifying models. That way, it would even work with emulators, and every game could have its own nude mod.
