skyrim suddenly won't launch!!

hey. been a week since i played skyrim and suddenly it won't launch.

tried these.

-skse

-skyrim.exe

-skyrim se launcher

-verifying steam files

nothing happens. i click the exe and nothing happens.

 

now i'm afraid to touch anything...installing skyrim takes more than a week and I'm afraid to do anything. thanks in advance.

if nothing at all is happening, as in, not even an error message, have you tried resetting PC, maybe even CTRL alt delete and see if there's an instance of it running?

This is why the IT sector is dead. Mouse not working -> reinstall or replace PC.

Are you starting the wrong launcher ? You have to start skse64_loader.exe instead of SkyrimSELauncher.exe/SkyrimSE.exe

I'm using SKSE64 to load the game of course.

Just to check, but you didn't accidentally upgrade your game in steam? I notice you have 1.5.97 still.

Wouldn't verifying your game also automatically update it to version 1.6.1170?

you got me for a moment. no i didn't upgrade my game. i haven't touched my files since past week. still don't want to do anything to the files. everytime i do this it ends with a disaster.

wait a min. there is no crash log while (skse.exe) runs for a femto sec and have a black window like dos screen then shuts down with out nothing.

should i do a windows recovery?

First check if the version is actually a problem. Open your Skyrim Special Edition Folder, and check the version of your SkyrimSE.exe. You can hover over it, or right click and see properties.

In that case Steam file verification failed. There's no situation I know of where it will verify files to an old version of a product.

 

Next thing I would check is the Application log in Event Viewer. Look for anything related to skse64_loader.exe or SkyrimSE.exe.

To keep on version 1.5.97, did you avoid updating or did you use a downgrader (or best of both world installation)? Because I believe that launching the game through the default exe will have Steam automatically update it as well.

 

Did you also try with a minimal mod list? If you use MO2 or Vortex, you can make an mod profile with all mods disabled without changing your main profile.

The directory where the OP has Skyrim installed is not a valid Steam app library, indicating one of the following:

1. The game was manually moved after installing, thus explaining why verifying files didn't work and why the game won't start anymore.
2. The game is cracked, and the statement about verifying Steam files was a lie.

 

Edit: The folder name is also wrong, as far as I know SE and AE install into "Skyrim Special Edition", not "The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - Special Edition". Smells like a cracked game to me.

indeed I moved it and  programmed and edited the registry so i can make it work. but that was years ago.

Steam does not use the registry for this, so that explains why verifying files didn't work. You now have another installation of Skyrim somewhere.

it was a windows update thing that blocked it from responding. i don't know How. but the windows update and the kaspersky both stopped the launch.

I do not know if Skyrim will refuse to run if you uninstall it from Steam while having a copy of its files somewhere else. It would make sense if Steamworks still allowed it to run since uninstalling a product does not mean you revoke your temporary license to it.
