ghostpervy Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Hi everyone, I recently started playing The Sims 4 after a wave of nostalgia for The Sims 3 lololol. Well, I never have the patience to create characters from scratch, so I usually just hit "randomize" until something I like pops up; then I tweak it a bit and start the game (^_^) BUT something caught my attention during the randomization process: for some reason, 9 times out of 10, the character shows up with dark skin (I'm Black, btw)..... WHY???? Did this only happen to me? Are the creators pushing agendas in a life simulation game?? WTF is going on??? I don't like playing with very dark-skinned Sims because it's hard to see the details. PS: Why does The Sims 4 seem to have worse gameplay than its predecessor, The Sims 3? PPS: I actually counted, and at one point I had to randomize 25 times just to get a "light-skinned" character O_o
ghostpervy Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 Oh, even in the suggested scenario modes, most of them feature dark-skinned characters too.🙃
Siemann Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Gambler's fallacy. I rarely roll dark skin on my randoms, so unless you've got mods that are skewing the selectable skintones, you're just surfing the tail of the curve. 23 minutes ago, ghostpervy said: PS: Why does The Sims 4 seem to have worse gameplay than its predecessor, The Sims 3? Because it was an MMO hastily repacked as a flagship release, and its decade-plus of addons has turned it into a bloated chimera of spaghetti code. The only reason I even got it was for the sexmods, and with Paralives gone gold and much more mod-friendly, we'll see how long that appeal lasts. 1
Faolon Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I always roll freaky looking characters when I randomize. Like absurdly proportioned. Like if Gru lived in San Francisco. Oddly shaped body, every piercing, randomly colored hair with mismatched eyebrows, and it's always the worst of the available hairstyles. Their clothes are awful, too. Like the wardrobe designer from the more recent Dr. Who series' was in charge of deciding it. 1

We tend to assume randomness means getting a different result every time, but in reality, streaks can definitely occur. Also, your being supposedly black doesn't make this post sound any less racially loaded. Leaping to the assumption that the game is trying to "push an agenda" from something as miniscule as CAS randomization says more about you than anything else. Edited July 31 by SilentAegis 4

Raramente uso pele escura em minhas roupas aleatórias, então, a menos que você tenha mods que distorçam os tons de pele selecionáveis, você está apenas surfando na curva. Well, the only mods I use are for expanding options—you know, clothes, objects, careers, interactions, and things like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I understand what "randomness" is, as well as the odds of what happened to me—which happened multiple times (I started two new families and the same thing occurred). I was asking a fair question because I realize the "woke" movement is real and has been spreading for decades, whether you believe it or not (Dragon Age is a perfect example of this), and I thought The Sims might be involved too. As for me being Black—here is my full surname: Hernandez Oliveira Campos. I’m a Brazilian of Greek and Spanish descent, and my mother is Haitian 😑. But I’ve already realized that no idiot here is even going to consider that I’m being genuinely honest... Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It won't change my life in the slightest; I was just curious. So, fuck off, I guess? 1

But man 😂 some Sims turned out absurdly disproportionate—extremely narrow hips, huge legs; there was even one with a massive neck—I didn't even know that was possible 😶

Use to think it was a bad default skin until I have no default skin at all, and it still happened. Maybe one of the programmers of the game is into dark skin, 1

(like blue, purple) well whatever, tnks In the sims 4,the randomizer can feel uneven because the game pulls from an expanded pool of neutral, warm, cool, and bizarre occult swatches, leading many players on reddit to notice a heavy statistical skew in generated townies. CAS Randomizer Behavior Uneven Weighting: The random selection tool does not always balance light, medium, and dark options equally, often favoring specific color families or newly added palette rows. Expanded Swatches: Following major skin tone updates, the sheer volume of deep and unusual color swatches increases the mathematical chance of rolling a darker or saturated tone.

EAMaxis even added a bunch of new starter sims of various ethnicities with their latest patch so the ratio may be even more skewed now. https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/news/update-7-21-2026 1

ghostpervy Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago so, what about my giraff (long neck) random in cas? and many times, the npcs get an error and they feet stretch and fuse together like they'r underwear fall all the way donw??/ lololol Well, errors and bugs aside (and I found quite a few, btw), the issue with the shades shouldn't be happening; theoretically, there are just as many light tones as dark ones, but it seems like no one is really keen on adding light tones to the presets, so you can only get certain light shades if you do it manually. P.S.: It looks like colors like purple, blue, etc., are also affecting the CAS randomizer—someone dug into the files and posted about it on Reddit; some kind of cross-interference in the code?
