RainbowFlutter Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 So I'm trying again to see if I can figure out why this plugin -- Oblivion the World of L -- keeps crashing. There's a new post in the thread saying there are some missing textures: textures\creatures\ghost\invisible.dds textures\creatures\ghost\invisible_n.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghost03.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghost03_n.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghosttop02.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghosttop02_n.dds textures\quest\icon_miscellaneous.dds Source: Thread post. It's saying that the textures might come from Sexualized Oblivion, but when I download that particular mod: Here. It does not contain those textures. Is this what is causing the mod to crash in Imperial city? Is there a way to "compile" plugins yet to find out if it's referencing a missing texture and then delete it in some kind of creation lab or editor?
fejeena Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 textures\creatures\ghost\invisible.dds textures\creatures\ghost\invisible_n.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghost03.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghost03_n.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghosttop02.dds textures\creatures\ghost\ghosttop02_n.dds All vanilla textures in the BSA ( Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa ) "textures\quest\icon_miscellaneous.dds" should be "textures\menus\Icons\quest\icon_miscellaneous.dds" icon_miscellaneous.7z
varenne Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Let's start by listing which files you've installed for Oblivion the World of L. It's been a long time since I tried to get that working and never succeeded as I recall. Make note this is the equivalent of a major overhaul of Oblivion. If you don't have the exact files specified on the MOD author's page on Nexus, you may not be able to get it to work, without a lot of troubleshooting in CS/CSE and NifSkope. Here's the files I found on an old drive in a folder titled 'polluxval': L_World_Main_File_Xeoex-39917.rar L_World_Unofficial_Patches-39917.rar Sexualized_Oblivion_esp_Ghost_Girl-39917-1-0.rar In the last one, titled Ghost Girl there is a.nif file titled nvgui.nif. When I open it in NifSkope this is what she looks like and you can see the texture files path and file names are different from what you listed. I believe what happens is the ESPs will redirect Oblivion to use these meshes and textures instead of the default Oblivion ones. Odds are you will need to run Archive Invalidate and start a new game, the later of which I think was mentioned on the MODs page. Also did you get all prior requirements installed and working first? If not you have very little chance of success. Requirements on the page you linked to: REQUIREMENTS: OBLIVION AND SHIVERING ISLES with patch 1.2.0.214 [sIDE NOTE: THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE THIS MODS ACTIVE, YOU ONLY NEED THE MESHES AND TEXTURES. SO IF YOU THINK THIS CAN MESS UP YOUR GAME, JUST DOWNLOAD THE FILES AND PUT THE MESHES AND TEXTURES ON YOUR DATA FOLDER AND THATS ALL. RainbowFlutter Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 I've never used the archive invalidation, so I'm guessing that might be part of the problem? Will try it out and see if that helps things!
varenne Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I've never used the archive invalidation, so I'm guessing that might be part of the problem? Will try it out and see if that helps things! Yes, you'll need to redirect Oblivion to use what you have in data folders vs. what's in BSA archives it would normally use. Archive Invalidation If you find you still CTD (crash to desktop) we'll need more details on your Load Order. And in the case of this super MOD, all files you installed from.
RainbowFlutter Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 I've been avoiding Imperial City for a while to make sure the rest of my mods are stable in general. Will need to come back to this. For now, I've removed the Ghost Girl ESP associated with the mod.
varenne Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 That Ghost Girl uses a very unique nif and skeleton as I recall and may be the source of CTDs. Never really looked to deeply into it and my knowledge of such things back then was minimal. Monster Girl MODs had similar issues and also Cursed armor, and the nifs with issues are very similar to one another in many ways. When ever meshes, skeletons or animations differ largely from the 'norm' I've experienced CTDs often and/or other in-game oddities.
