Sunayo Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I've been on a mad hunt to try and make New Vegas as stable as possible. So far I have a list of mods already installed but I'm partly nervous. Last time I tried playing New Vegas it lasted for about an hour before it made my entire computer hard crash. I hate having to hard reset if I can help it so my question for the community is what mods and fixes can I use to prevent that again. Here's a list of what I've managed to get personally via Nexus and other offsite options. The issue with NVAC is far more severe than that - see, it'll prevent crashes by not allowing the game to crash when some unhandled exception occurs. The game crashes because the game code/mod code has oversights in that part under specific circumstances, and if it's undhandled, the crash occurs to bascially "protect" the rest of the data. NVAC prevents this crash, and allows for bad data to be written into save files or inconsistent states to persists. Basically, the concept of the mod is backwards and harmful, you don't need to prevent crashes by disabling crashes, you need to fix your code. 1

It quite literally locked up the entire rig to the point I had to do a hard reset. I HATE DOING THAT. That can potentially cause damage to your PC. Thank you!🥰

Do I still need to edit the INI files manually or these mods do that already? I know you have to change certain entries in the INI files otherwise the game won't even start at all, especially if you're using the script extender.

It's not as much as editing the ini files, but creating an "override" ini that will apply values over the default ini files so you don't need to mess with those. 1

Yeah I ended up just using Viva New Vegas via Mod Organizer 2 method. I'm going to feel really silly if it was that simple all this time. Still a few questions though regarding that the Viva New Vegas install guide didn't address. Is it still recommended to use FNVEdit to clean up the ESM's and should I still use Ultimate Edition still?

Thank you Taki17 for putting up with my newbieness.🥰🤣 On another note I'm starting to warm up to Mod Organizer 2 and Wabbajack. I hate to talk smack about NMM and Vortex but to be honest they're not as user friendly as MO2 and Wabbajack. This game is now running smooth as glass now. Thank you again Taki, you rock.🥰 Edited June 22 by Sunayo 1
Jijodebuta189 Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I'm having a good experience playing with 200 mods just following the Viva New Vegas guide and one from Nexus: https://vivanewvegas.moddinglinked.com/intro.html https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/96923

Apparently the opening items are missing and while I can live without the spare weapons I kind of miss the Vault 13 Canteen and the binoculars. Don't suppose those are still available somewhere still?

I don't remember the cantimplore, but the binoculars can be found on a deadman's body on a highway going from Goodspring to Primm (usually I just steal the one on the table together to ghost on the Mojave Outpost). If you have goodies, I believe that you can put on the mcm that the courier stash DLC doesn't get delayed. Or you can use commands to add the items (open the console deactivates achievements, warning) or use this mod that lets you add items through plugins: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/98212 Edited June 25 by Jijodebuta189 1

Was never a big fan of you suddenly waking up and seeing borderline endgame weapons and armor with you at the start. No I like finding you unique items/weapons and armor while exploring. Reason why I loved the Modern Rifle pack for Fallout 4, usually went out of my way to get the All American at Sentinel Site. Sweet thank you!🥰 1
