Passerby Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 From when I started my game picking up arrows that I've fired from the ground always gave the "Steal" text, but I didn't really think anything of it. But now that I have a house, every last thing in it I might want to pick up says I'm stealing it. If my housecarl sees me pick anything up, she'll mention it but not report me, then a guard will run in and...just stand there, not arresting me or anything. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this, or how to fix it?
gvman3670 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Sorry, I don't know what's causing it or how to fix it. But I would say that you should just run with it and play the part of a thief.
mclericp Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 i think, if ur arrows are stolen and u pick them up and drop it, they are still marked as stolen. Kinda lame but it is like this I remember stealing a tomato but then felt it was useless, so i dropped it. I then moused over it and saw it as 'stolen'
gvman3670 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Also, if you have 1000000 arrows that aren't stolen and add one more of that kind that is stolen the entire lot will show as stolen in your list or while laying on the ground. Same is true for ingredients, foodstuffs, soul gems, etc......
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 on the ingredients it works a little different, gvman. i once stole a deadra heart, put it to my stash, and the pile said stolen. so i picked the last 6 hearts... pile was not stolen anymore. then i dropped the 6 hearts one by one on the ground, only one was marked stolen, so i "ate the stolen heart", picked up the other 5, puttem on my stash, and all was fine.
gvman3670 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Yeah, you can usually ditch the stolen items. But if you drop a pile of things they often only show as one item and those will generally all be called stolen. I'm not sure this applies to OP, though. Maybe just everything he touches gets flagged as stolen?
Passerby Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 It's not that everything I touch becomes stolen. If so...hey, maybe I would be tempted to play a hard thief. Who lives in a stolen house, eats stolen food, sleeps in a stolen bed and bathes in a stolen tub. With stolen water. But actually it just acts more like whenever the game is set up to identify the owner of something as the player, it just gives up and says it's someone else. But it's a little silly I can build a house with my bare hands and then be robbing (myself?) when I try to store my stuff in the chest I just made. I mean it really just means I've been using setownership on EVERYTHING, but it gets old kinda fast when you're trying to setownership a whole kitchen full of stuff. If this keeps up I might just be tempted to make a setownership shout or something. "MINE!" I just wish I could figure out some sort of console command or information that would identify exactly who the game thinks the owner is so I can have some idea of how to approach this. Also, the game's actually pretty good about keeping track of stolen vs nonstolen items in this game vs oblivion (separate stacks of stolen items just annoyed me a ton), so that doesn't seem to be the issue. As to exactly how/when/where stolen items are used in relation to the rest of the stack (hopefully they're used first), I can't say. EDIT: Alright, figured it out. Not at all sure HOW it happened, but somehow I wasn't in the player faction. Just one little "player.addfac db1 0" and suddenly the arrows I fire are actually mine. Times like this I'm really, really not sure why we don't have a way to check player/NPC factions in game via console or SKSE or otherwise.
