AeonMyres Posted June 21 Posted June 21 well, idk what I'm doing wrong then but I recognize this isn't the place to try and diagnose whatever I'm fucking up. I'm happy to see that the adult mod scene is still alive for palworld, and thank you for all your hard work.

If you need more direct help, you can always ask over in our Discord ^-^ (We're helping people on a daily basis, been a bit of a confusing time with lots of people coming back for Palworld 1.0 lol) 11 minutes ago, Ban2300 said: Well, if by 'still alive' you mean 'active war zone', then yes, it seems to be very much 'still alive' for Palworld... Please leave the drama out of this thread. This is a thread for and about Altermatic, and it should stay that way. There's plenty of other threads already littered with drama for you to partake in, please leave content threads alone.

Apologies for spreading bad vibes, but after just starting the Palworlds for the first time, downloading all the up to date lewd mods, and then finding out that none of them end up working nor probably ever will work in the future because no one on here will update or get things working together to make anything cohesively function because of 'he-said she-said bullshit', I'm understandably a bit sore. 3
hevensdragon10025661 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 As a new player to 1.0, modding has been awful of a experience, things are spread out all over the place, you find one of the discords and ask some questions, and get non answers, you ask certification and your a problem, mocked for not finding a doc that is buried in a singled channels pins then finding that it has files, but you have to download the files realize they are placeholders an have link to discord posts, google drive or some other location. I spent weeks making jsons for dynamic because when I asked how to use alt paks they said I needed those, and when I asked if they were already made they mocked me for wanting things handed to me, so I went and started to make them from scratch as I couldn't find them, then when I proudly announced I was almost don't I got mocked for wasting my time when they all exist. I kept asking for info on palmagic, vs dynamic vs altermatic. Ease of use, stability, they just say use the one you like, another non answer other than they say altermatic is entirely dead. Pretty sure their main Q&A muted me, though actually thankful as users actually give answers to questions, vs that Q&A just spams links at you that are vaguely related at best, and often expect you to read pages of unrelated stuff to find something they can answer with a few words. Since the Q&A muted he no longer interferes with questions and other users then see it unanswered and I get real answers. Even prior the server is so hostile to questions and new players that the nicer users will DM you when they see you ask a question as they are scared to answer you in the discord as they don't want to upset they modders for correcting them. And that is the worst part the miss information from the modders, if anyone mentions vortex they jump on them to never use it, that its broken and doesn't place files right. But from what I can see the cause of that is modders not putting folders paths in at all. When asked why they don't put folders so as to standardize all mods being unzipped at the root with a PAL folder they ask "why would we bother". They don't seem to understand simple questions, like if I ask if a pak file is a replace or a alt one to use with a json, took me a while to realize they were getting mad I was calling it a alt one and not a palmagic one, yes they were being a pane because how dare I mention altermatic, without even saying that they were against altermatic, the way they talked I thought altermatic was just a mod that was discontinued and there was new replacements. But even after learning their required terms, they sill never actually answer questions, just give you a link, that after four or five other links you will find the answer. Its such a strange modders, hostility feels like its just right under the surface. Like they hate all the users, and are just throwing files out as scraps that we should make do with, loose pak files, we are just expected to make things work. If we can't, its our fault and problem not theirs. Like I get that they are probably making the mods for their own usage, and giving access as a afterthought, but its still so odd how they seem to be making things harder for themselves as well. They do talk about you, or rather I think its topics about you, they just say a person did something and act mad, give no context of who it was or what was done, but just treat you as someone who must not be named. Their reaction to altermatic makes me almost certain your the modder they were talking about, plus looking at talks. I am always of the opinion of even if a creator is scummy, or does something stupid, that unless what they made had a part in the problem, that it shouldn't be treated as must be destroyed, as to me that is no different than the mentality of burning books. That said with the way they act I have a hard to believing anything they are saying. But they way they have discord exclusive models. how the doc spreadsheet so often links to their discord where files are, it feels like to mod the game you need access to the server, so if they ban for talking to you or join yours, well we are just screwed. And I wouldn't put it past them to have a alt on your server to check for mutual servers on users with the way they ask. So what I want to ask here, you mentioned palmagic and dynamic being not as good as altermatic, but could you list some pros vs cons? As far as I have seen dynamic has a better interface for selecting a specific skin, can read both palmagic and alt jsons. And easier to set up. Palmagic is more stable and better at cycling through skins, but can't read alt jsons without a converter and you have to run a bat whenever you make changes. How does altermatic compare on those fronts?

How does altermatic compare on those fronts? I'm sorry about your troubles you've been having thus far, and its really unbecoming of anyone who doesn't want to answer questions if they have the answers or just won't admit that they don't know it themselves. While I can't answer all of your questions however, I can answer your last one in parts: Altermatic pros - simple to install and use out the box, with current legacy support if the pal skins on Nexus or otherwise were updated anytime after the Terraria and swimming updates. Altermatic cons - relies on a logicmod (unipalui) which needs to be as up to date as the version being used, rerolling skins is a crapshoot between all available options installed, is prone to corrupted persist saves which will do things like apply a skin to a pal it shouldn't (a Verdash with a Jackal Melpaca skin with no animations for example). I can list the others in a spoiler so it's up to you to view opinions or not otherwise, but I have no input on any more recent versions due to being blacklisted from TBC (and blocked on Nexus) by the author for some time. Spoiler Additional opinions: PalMagic pros - supports the same basics as Altermatic, open-source, can support custom materials and models per pal (trying to figure this out personally however), can operate in parts with skeleton changed skins like TBox's, has a bit of compatibility with DynamicPals PalMagic cons - relatively new and missing features that the author has roadmapped for the near future, requires python to make altermatic files compatible with it, is not compatible with Altermatic at all/replaces it entirely. DynamicPals pros - open-source on GitHub, works with both PalMagic and Altermatic file setups, supports skeleton replacers (one per pal however) if supported with jsons or otherwise, has an optional .bat file that updates or installs UE4SS and the latest version of DP at user's choice, a much clearer and focused UI for manual rerolling of selection of available pal skins, has an "evolution" feature if a pal skin supports it (such as an existing Fennekin > Braixen > Delphox mod that exists, only if the pal is currently wearing any of the previous). DynamicPals cons - relatively new, rerolls pal skins whenever they're in render range again (could just be me however), may overload and crash your game if you use certain packs which have a lot of skins and options to load into the menu (meaning if the json has over 100 entries for the pal being viewed, not overall).

That mostly all tracks with what I have found, I will ad that palmagic seams like more of a paint to get set up (also going to give it a negative that the bat file you have to run isn't included on nexus, despite the description saying it is, you have to look in posts to see they mention they removed it because nexus didn't like the bat file.) Palmagic seems to be better at rapid cycling, vs dynamic doesn't respond if you swap between skins to look at each one. Its more select the one you want and leave it. Manually set ones it does remember, the rerolling I am unsure. At this point I now set up, but the journey to it sucked, I am using entirly self made jsons, after learning Fmodel to extract the file paths and ID's needed, as I was told it was the only way to get them, only to find out after I finished that they were just downloads. Thats the part I hate about the community, there is this constant of assumed knowledge, you must know they call alt pak models PDF's, you must know you cant say alts, you must know there is a doc that is linked in a single pin that then has links to resources you need. You have to search for things you can't know of and ask about them without knowing they exist. And if you ask wrong you get trolled by the modders, if you realize your getting trolled and try to stand up for yourself you get in trouble. It sucks. I do get that the lead modder of the server has very bad english so he is actually just not understanding what your asking, but the others on there are just malicious. But yeah at this point I mostly have all the knowledge I need, other than not knowing much about altermatic, do to how entrenched I am in dynamics set up, I will probably stick to it. But I did feel like I should share how much of a horrible wall modding is for new players. and that modding is being gate keeped by modders. Also a odd thing I noticed, that community is only artist. They seem to hate coders as a whole, and as I asked code questions I think its is why I was immediately treated so badly. They are almost proud of how they don't know code and will say they only do art not code. Maybe they thought I was related to you or spying or something, IDK. Edited August 17 by hevensdragon10025661

I'm not the OP, just someone they don't like and a non-modder who tries to help where I can xd But, I'm wondering what servers were you in that were acting so toxic for, cause it doesn't track for the ones I've been in for these last few months since drama wants to be kept to a minimum in them. Otherwise, the actual NSFW community here is composed rather thinly of artists and mostly users. There's: 3 framework authors (MonoDragon [PalMagic, LovingPal, PalCinema], Poki [DynamicPals], and Sprit_Shard [Altermatic and Sugar Cake]. If you want to count addons/submods, then alphabetsoupdog123 would be here as well) ~11 animators [most on hiatus] (Z3N-Dragon, Sibelyx, Greyu, xMenar, Bakkas, Shiinr, Lanz, JohnD, TemTem, Lurker, and Lemonlord) like, 6 or so pal modelers (xMenar, Bakkas, Z3N-Dragon, TBox, Zetter3D, UnfairJackal, Fungi) player modelers are lesser, but I haven't recorded who all are outside of Bakkas and Reaper (Renamon guy), plus like 3 or 4 others on Nexus or so. There's always a place for those who know coding though, I just wouldn't get too hung up on the ones who don't want to share (I see this in SFW communities like the DBXV area where knowledge is far and few between, so there's a ton of FAFO trial and error to learn something).

To be frank, if I intended to say names, I would have already, but that would just stir up more drama when I want less. But over all I do look at this game and its modding scene and see just a lack of QOL and ease of use, which is where I think I will put my focus. Up till you start using a framework mod its simple enough, a combined mod creator/manager that is custom for the game would go miles to improve things. If it could convert replacer paks mods into alt/palmagic or even generate the jsons it would make things far easier for users and players. I will be seeing what I can do on that.

There is a way to convert replacers into runtime jsons, but it's not a process I'm privy to at the least. You could try asking some of the folks who have made these kinds of mods (though they tend to hang out in either Tbox or Jackal discords predominantly as recently stated for reason), could get an answer from them pretty easily if they aren't busy in their day to day lives. The most I can offer up is that example jsons tend to be given with the runtime frameworks on how to format it for readability, while with palmagic being open source (the source folder being given in its download on LL as well), maybe that one can give a better look for those who know what to look for. Otherwise, it does have an alt converter that just requires you to have python installed to run the command.
