Question for RM overlay (i.e. SlaveTats) experts.

So I was under the impression that RaceMenu would tint all pixels with a color value of 68 69 68 but now I'm discovering that it's actually tinting everything when applying overlays. This is causing issues with my next project, since I need an overlay to keep its colors intact. But then it occured to me, surely we have multi-color tattoos and other such overlays, right? How do they do it?

Looking for (any of):

  1. Example RaceMenu/SlaveTats tattoo mod with colorful tattoos that works on latest RaceMenu (AE 1170). Preferably one where a color of the tattoo can be changed in RM, and the other colors remain intact.
  2. Mod which is applying skin overrides with a RaceMenu slider. Like the HPH head swap slider.
  3. Ideas for how to apply an overlay in RM, without specifying a tint color. White != original colors, it's just white-tinted.

Here's an example of 68 69 68 being a thing in 2024.

Those look very single-color to me. It's easy to hide a tint in black pixels, and the rest is green and light green or pink and light pink. There's no (as an example) red and yellow mixed in these. I'll have a look at it regardless.

Edit: Ah, but the textures themselves mix colors with grey parts. I'll inspect this properly when I find the time.

Edit again: Yeah so the textures have mixed colors but it's all equally tinted in RaceMenu. I did discover that the original diffuse texture colors sort of come through if you use a mid-range grey tint color, but this unfortunately doesn't work so good on what I'm trying to do here - I really need unaltered colors.

You can make it more or less bright...

It does this by altering the alpha value of the texture, i.e. less bright means more see-through. This unfortunately doesn't work for my purpose, as it stills leaves the question of essentially adding a node override without a tint color - the alpha channel is just one of 4 color channels.

It would be interesting to know where those tattoos in your spoiler tag came from though. Specifically what the author of those says about the (presumably) optimal tint color setting in RaceMenu.

I made them with Photoshop. I used a black and white png, duplicated the layer, overlaid the various effects (outline, color, gradient, highlights, shadows) on the duplicate, the layers, merged them below (do not merge layers), exported and converted to DDS.

I only activate the brightest channel, or, in some cases, I don't touch anything even though the mod says to change it in Racemenu. In Racemenu, I just make sure the tattoo is applied and leave everything at default.

Default is remembered by RM though. My default for this specific overlay right now is #00000000 ARGB, i.e. black and transparent. So what is your "default"?
