Myst42 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Why do they have to be so darn complicated? Gosh I miss the old days where you could just download something and install it (Imagine all of this coming out of my brain with a welsh accent for whatever reason...) Tried to install this cause it seemed nice and it was by far the most "endorsed"... not that I care but usually people endorse things that are in fact good... well most of the times anyway... So "HOW IN OBLIVION DOES PEOPLE INSTALL IT!?" I followed the steps, I don't know maybe I screwed over or something but I just cant get the darn thing to work The colors look brighter but there's no "DoF" or blurry edges, I got a "blink" effect of light and dark that could be described as winking your eyes when I scan the environment I get little black dots all over the textures... I don't understand a freaking word of all those words used for photographic filters "SSAO" FXAA" "MSAA" "AF" and a thousand little others.. I'm really ashamed and sorry for my ignorance but it's freaking gibberish All I know is I want things to look good I want more vibrant colors, definition and that Crysis-like depth of field effect that blurries things slightly out of focus. Is it too much to ask? I got lost and overwhelmed by the million little options, mods, requirements installing instructions mods and more mods that it requires, plus the tweaks, ini settings, graphic card adjustments etc etc etc... Every mod has 10 mod requirements and those other 10 have 10 more and so on... OK maybe I'm exaggerating but still... Seriously how in Oblivion do you people navigate through that? So a little help here please... is there anyway simpler to get those 3 little things I wanted plus a nice sun glare effect? Or a step by step guide through that maze of a messed up installation? Perhaps an easier recommended ENB that comes with everything?
brokencircle Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Gopher over on the nexus has an instruction video on how to install that particular enb. I'm pretty sure that there's a link to it on realvisions description page.
gaggedgirl123 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 You only need to follow section 3 actually... the others are just recommended mods
Vivi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Another reason why i love Somber, it only needs CoT by default Anyways, here is the vid mentioned above http://youtu.be/RdTuA0np_Wg.
Myst42 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Ok thanks That's much clearer However I still have 2 doubts First is Are the mods listed under "essential" really essential? The ENB NEEDS those (CoT, CoT Weather Patch and Realistic lighting or Enhanced Lighting) or it wont work? I ask because i get immediate CTD with the CoT Weather Patches, it doesn't even survive the main menu. I checked the load order according to specifications and that wasn't the problem... mod just doesn't work on my current version... and is that mod not the ENB, it's entirely isolated Second is asking for advice on hardware You see, my computer is ancient, I wanted to install this because I wanted to use it to see how it looks and mostly for screenshooting But for playing... even without ENBs my machine has amounts of lag of biblical proportions in large cities and detailed landscapes... I have to play in a 800x600 resolution with absolutely no effects or I can't play at all So the deal is I upgrade graphic quality temporarily for screenshooting purposes and then back to low quality Like I said the installation worked by half... I couldn't really see results because of the lag and because it took 2 minutes to load each location. Even playing was a miracle And maybe the low render was one of the reasons it didn't work... Oblivion has a history of not having DoF effect either when I use OBGE in this machine... This is eventually going to end as I intend on purchasing new equipment BUT I know compatibilities and requirements can be tricky sometimes you may buy something you think is the best and then turns out it's still insufficient or not compatible So what exactly would I need to be able to play from Oblivion to Skyrim with perfect quality and no lag using even the most expensive ENBs? In terms of graphic card, memory, system, CPU etc... I'm tired of seeing how I buy new things and it still works like crap no matter what What do you guys advice and what do you have?
Vivi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I have an older i5 2500 (not overclocked 3.3Ghz), 8Gig DDR3, HD7970 (3Gig) with a 850Psu and i have stable 40 fps outdoors with Skyrim on Ultra with Somber.
lidowxxx Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 The mods listed under "essential" are just the author's recommended mods, if you install the ENB without one of them or some of them, something will look a bit off or completely different from the screenshots depending on which mods you don't have installed, but it won't crash your game even if you have none of them. If your crashing before you reach the main menu, it's usually because you are missing a master file, check your newly installed mods, read the mod's description page and see if they require anything to work. Regarding your hardwares, if you have to play at 640x480 without any effects in vanilla game, I would simply forget about installing ENB on your machine, ENB adds lots of post-processing effects(SSAO, detailed shadow, DOF, bloom....) to the game which can be very taxing even to a very powerful PC, you may see single digit fps or worse even <5 fps on your current system if it's not outright crashing to desktop, it's not just practical for anything, including taking screenshots. If you are planning to buy a new computer and install ENB, make sure you get a haswell/ivybridge quad-core intel i5 or above, GTX760/R9-270x or better with at least 2GB VRAM, RAM shouldn't matter much as long as you have 8GB DDR3, motherboard will be largely depended on your choice of CPU and whether you want to overclock. Then you should be able to run most popular ENBs assuming you are going to play at 1080p, just keep in mind some ENB presets are extremely intensive and require some tweaking to make them playable, take the ENB preset on the nexus hot files right now for example, it brings my i5-4670k/GTX770 4GB(both overclocked) to its knees without tweaking.
