Elvenlover Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hello everyone! Lately I'm thinking alot about switching to OStim in my mod setup, since I really want the first person view in scenes. However, many mods I'm currently using require Sexlab to be installed (like Naked Defeat, Devious Curses, Devious Devices etc.). But I've read on the OStim nexus site, that you can actually use both Sexlab and Ostim together. My question is now: How good does this "dual system" work? Anyone of you got that successfully setup? Maybe some tips or things to look out for, if I decide to use both? I'm aware that this might differ from load order to load order. Still, I'm grateful for any input and tips regarding this, so I can consider if it's worth a shot or not. Thanks in advance :3
plutocene Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I've been running Sexlab/Ostim for a while. TLDR: I would argue to use Ostim for consensual and Sexlab for non-consensual encounters. If you want creatures, you obviously need SL. There is a patch for Ostim I haven't tried that though. The main problem is that there is no bridge between them. Naked Defeat, Devious Curses, Devious Devices etc., essentially the hardcore non-consensual stuff is pretty much locked in the SL-framework. Somebody attempted an event-bridge but to my knowledge that thing doesn't work. Some mods have been ported to Ostim or got patches. Examples are: Visual state of undress (Ostim), OTiredtoMove, Cumswallow needs, npcs approach, amorous adventures for ostim, sisterhood of dibella, dark arena, and today there was a patch posted for prostitution as well. Fertility Mode works for both SL and Ostim. (The NG version says SL is not officially supported), alternative the new BF NG by Crajjji. SLO Aroused NG also works for both. A different version exists that works too. Some mods require you to run redundant mods like sexlab inflation/oinflation, and SLSA / ostim has inbuilt mechanic. Regarding animations: Ostim requires a patch for animations to work. I sadly do not know why technically. I also do not know if you can share animations between frameworks, I think not, its either one or the other. Ostim offers a superior handling/progression of sex scenes, has plenty of add ons and animations unique to it. So great for romance stuff. Sexlab has even more add ons and supports creature and no-consensual stuff, which Ostim does not. I haven't seen a single submod that would do such a thing. Keeping your sanity and a stable load order is more difficult though Hope that helps. 1
Guest Posted January 20 Posted January 20 If you don't need creatures, you can simply use OStim with Sexlab mods! Download this mod: What it does is basically change it so that anytime a SexLab scene is supposed to occur it instead triggers an OStim scene. I've used it with good results with mods such as Naked Defeat that is made for SexLab. Only drawbacks I can think of is that OStim doesn't to my knowledge support creatures so you would still need SexLab animations for those and also most of the animation packs are quite vanilla for OStim. There is a guy here though that has converted FunnyBizness, Nymra and other packs to OStim so I would recommend digging for those if you choose to go this route. To conclude, it is quite possible to run SexLab and OStim at the same time although I don't use any SexLab animations I have it simply because it's a requirement for SexLab mods to function.

This question has been asked a gazillion times on this forum already and the answer is always the same: both frameworks are independent of each other, they do not interact with each other, they do not even acknowledge each other's existence and can be used in parallel with virtually no issues. The only conflict may stem when one is trying to start a scene at the same time as the other. Which is rare, unless you deliberately bring such situation about. Edited January 20 by belegost 3
Elvenlover Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Thanks for all the input, appreciate it. Guess I'll just give it a shot then and try to run OStim along with Sexlab. Preferably on a test save first, lol :3

Does this Sexlab - OStim mod mean mods that convert Sexlab to OStim mods are not needed? e.g Sisterhood of Dibella, Shadowman's NPCs etc.

It can be good for relationship mods and stuff but if you are looking for sexlab animations, it's not gonna be good for that.

There are many mods that have options for both (ie, you can use either framework), so be aware of what needs what as a dependency. As others have pointed out, nine times out of ten you'll need Sexlab for anything involving noncon, creatures, defeat, and kink. OStim is great for consensual animations and romance-based systems. Most of what you'll find here on Loverslab relies on Sexlab (which in itself has two different versions), so keep that in mind! 1

If you have both OStim and Sexlab, and you have activities that specifically require Sexlab to run, will Ostim interfere? I'm thinking of a mod list with both mods that would be handled fine in OStim, and mods that require actions that OStim doesn't support/allow.

It won't "interfere" directly, but stat tracking isn't always handled well between the two, and if you're using the SL->OStim bridge, that one takes a moment to start up so you want native OStim support whenever and wherever that's possible. If those "activities that specifically require SL to run" are creature animations, do note that you have OCreatures Revived or whatever it was called now. Can't vouch for how well it works, though. I've not run into issues with Ostim interference; there are a handful of mods that use either framework, and most of the time when this happens, you tell the mod which one to use. Simply put: 99% of the time, mod X is very specific to ONLY one or the other. For defeat/rape/noncon mods and/or creature animations, there is very little overlap with Ostim unless you've found something like OCreatures, an extremely rare instance of an Ostim-compatible defeat mod, or are using a bridge like @Vaelorian mentioned above. The spicy or weird stuff is almost always Sexlab.
