Dating broken... again!

Swinging back into the game for the first time since summer and it seems base game dating is broken again. The date starts, but as soon as I try any interaction it immediately aborts with "Unsuccessful Date". I've looked it up and apparently this bug has resurfaced multiple times in multiple years, but I thought I'd ask in case anyone knows a user-end fix.

 

Playing with the Lovestruck expansion. EDIT: Confirmed the glitch is specific to its "Create a Date" mode. Trying to start one through my sims leads to a blank Create Event screen, so it's probably a mod conflict. Will troubleshoot. Quasi-solved.

Several days later and I think I'm going insane. Gutting the mods folder worked, and seemed to suss out WickedWhims, MCCC, and at least one other as-yet unidentified mod as problems. This last stretch trying to find the third has somehow broken the base game: gutting mods the second time, Lovestruck dates can be created, but fail at the first or second interaction. (The group gem is missing over the date sim, which I realized late is a quick indicator whether the event is working.) I've cleared the cache, because at this point the sims' neighbourhood portraits were showing custom content after it was removed, where in the first round of 50/50 they updated immediately.

 

Do I have to reinstall the whole game?

DISREGARD EVERYTHING I JUST WROTE:

 

It's not a mod conflict, it's a bug in the base game: if the date is created when the subject sim isn't the active sim, it breaks. Easy enough if you're the one making it, bad luck if it's an NPC asking and you're playing someone else.

 

Reinstalled all mods and the Create Event screen is no longer blank, so maybe the cache clear fixed whatever was causing that. Either way, EA fix your damn game(tm).

So in another casualty of the Royalty update, Create a Date fails for incestuous relationships. It can be worked around by removing the family relbits, and interestingly this doesn't seem to alter the tree or how sims register in MCCC, so it may be possible to mod a fix.
