No Footstep Audio

Bet everyone is annoyed with me at this point but I need help again. While sneaking and sprinting, I have footstep audio. If I try to walk or run regularly, I don't hear anything. I've read that some animations/ animation mods could break footstep audio (I don't get how though) but I never read exactly WHICH mods do. Does anyone have experience fixing this?

The footstep sound is bound to an animation event that's presumably raised from a specific frame of the animation. If that event isn't sent out, the game won't play a footstep sound.

 

You need the Havok tools to get into the hkx files. These became somewhat hard to find after Microsoft bought them up and hid them.

So does this mean I'm S.o.L for this? I wouldn't even know what to look for in a Havok tool...

Well I can tell you the following:

• You need to find HavokPcXsContentTools_X64_2010-2-0_20101115.exe somewhere and install it. This software doesn't work in a sandbox, which is very suspicious. I recommend using a virtual machine.
• HavokContentTools_2014-1-0_20140830_64Bit_PcXs.exe might also work.
• hkxcmd.exe is most likely the tool that is used for this.
• The conversion process from hkx to kf might require first converting the hkx to xml.
• If you have to use hkdump-bin.exe for something and it keeps crashing, move it to a folder structure that has no spaces in it. Also put all the files you're working on in a folder structure with no spaces in it.
• PyNifly (sometimes known as io_scene_nifly) might be able to load kf animations in Blender. If this doesn't work, or doesn't allow you to edit footstep sounds, then you'll need to find 3D StudioMax somewhere. A plugin that connects Havok to it might also be required if it's not already included in the Havok tools installer(s).

 

Edit: Oh, and here's the checksums for what I assume are the official files. With these being as rare as they are now, the chances of people putting malware in them goes up significantly. Would be a good idea to verify these before using:

I had recently similar problem (or maybe I should say - I decided to deal with it, as it was with me probably for very long time, just being ignored). And problem was that I could hear own footsteps only while in 1st person perspective, but after switching to 3pp - nothing, except maybe for jumps and when in combat stance. In my case solution was to get rid of FNIS SexyMove 360* pack.
