I am looking for people experienced in making custom Skyrim SE bodies and creatures. I am trying to make a Karelia the Smiler follower mod. I have a model and textures already. It has weighted bones, too. I assume it will need its own skeleton/rigging and animations. Any other ideas or help are welcome. Here is what I have so far. 

 

Update 1: I reposed the body and fit it to a 3BA body. Likely needs to be fixed tho. The bone weights definitely need some work if someone can help with that.

 

Update 2: I did all the CK stuff but my game instantly crashes when going into the Dragonsreach (Where I placed her). I can't figure out what causes it.

 

Update 3: xxhh_skyrim Did some work on the model and CK. Now just need to fix the seems and get the tail to work. Maybe work on the textures too.

Not particularly experienced in making completely new bodies but you could probably rig the draugr or human skeleton to it and assign it as a draugr or human follower in the CK. You would just need to look up a few tutorials. Of course it would also have to be re-weighted to the skeleton you had to rig the model to. Completely custom skeletons require entirely custom animations which can be tricky and intensive when it comes to Bethesda games.

Yeah, I do know how to do custom animations, but I really suck at weight painting. If someone wants to weight paint it to CBBE or 3BA skeletons, I'd be fine with that. I could even break it up with head, hands, and feet. I'll see what help I can get before doing too much extra. Biggest problem I have had is being able to take a custom skeleton and being able to upload it into Outfit Studio because I want the tail to maintain its shape

Hello, I just saw your post. Actually, if you want to make a mod that imports a custom model, you need a lot of technical skills.

First, you need to import the 3BA (or any Skyrim female body) into Blender. Then you must assign the correct parts for each section.

If you want your follower to have facial expressions, you need to create a head.tri file in Blender. These are the expression sliders—in Blender, they’re called Shape Keys.

After you bind all the weight paints for each part, export the model as a .nif file. Make sure to set up the folder structure correctly.

Then, you need to work in the Creation Kit. You must assign the head parts in the "Head Part" section. Set up the race record, and then select the corresponding parts in the race menu.

These are just the basic steps. There are many more small details involved.

Making this kind of mod is really complicated. So I suggest making this character as an "outfit" instead. Just replace the body, hands, feet, and head slots with this outfit. Then any character can wear it.

The downside of this method is that the outfit won’t have facial expressions.

I checked your files. For any head part that uses a .tri file, you must check this option. If you don't, your game will crash.

I'll summarize the issues with your mod:

  1. There is a problem with exporting your head.nif file. You also need to set the slot like this.

  2. The texture resolution is incorrect. It must be 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048, etc. If not, errors will occur.

  3. Your Texture Set must be configured this way.

After making these changes, you will have a working mod. The modified files are in the attachment.
 

I've fixed most of the issues, but it still might not work correctly — and that's normal. You just have to keep fixing bugs.

That's amazing! Now I just need to fix some seems and and get the tail to work. Thanks for the help!
