Need Help with Skyrim LOD Nifs

I have searched bing, google, yahoo and just about any other search engine for the last 4 hours. I have also searched the forums here as well. I am probably wording my search wrong. So I will just ask.

I am creating a mod with custom mesh and textures for new buildings. I have them working just fine in CK and in game except for one issue. The buildings disappear when you walk to far away form them in game. I think this has to do with LOD files (No clue what LOD stands for lol). I don't think the custom meshes and textures I am using has any. I downloaded Strotis Castle Wall Resource for Skyrim .

My question is this If I am missing LOD files for the above meshes and textures how do I create them. I am just starting to learn how to mod, and this is my first mod that is more then just a simple custom interior space. Also is there anyway to take screen shots of the render window in the CK so I can post teaser images for my upcoming mod? I know how to do it in game, Was just hoping for a way in the CK.

First make a test:

Check your Skyrim for a building that works. Check the mesh name. There should be another mesh with more or less the same name. In Oblivion it would be:

Building.nif

Building_far.nif

Check how it works in Skyrim, I have no clue. When you find it, copy your mesh and rename it accordingly.

See if that works.

If it works, simplify your mesh a lot, remove details and use this new one for the _far one. Also remove collision.

That will work in OB and FO but not sure for Skyrim.

Cheers!

The only nif files are the ones for the actual tileset. Example in the set there is a 1024Wall01.nif, now when you load this up in CK it is the actual static mesh of part of the wall for the fort. There is no other mesh that matches it for LOD. So how would I make a LOD mesh from the existing static meshes I have.  Now I did notice on the nexus page for the rescourses that it says to check "Is full LOD". My only concern is if someone does not have a computer as powerfull as  mine it might cause some video lag. Could someone with more knowlage about this then me take a look and see if that is the case or would it be fine to do the "Is full LOD".

Unfortunately my Skyrim knowledge is weak. If you have the source mesh I can do a simpler version for you though...

I've renamed your topic to attract more help, your title will scare away most modders :)

http://www.creationkit.com/Creating_a_Custom_Worldspace_with_LOD#Generating_Object_LOD

^ some info on generating LOD <(level of detail)

Also it is noted in the mods description

"LOD: There are no Lod nifs for Lod generation. To make the meshes visible from a distance, check the "Is full LOD" box for each reference, as can be seen in the demo esp."

Yep I read that, I commented on it and how I was not sure if it would cause issues for people with less powerful computers. I have read that page a few times but I don't think that applies for this since it is talking about _lod.nif and such that I don't have to begin with. Then again I dont really have a clue about making meshes and the such so I could be wrong (I probably am lol).

I am going to test out using "Is Full LOD", and then run skyrim and the mod on my laptop. If I don't have any issues or slowdowns I will just do it that way since it will be easier. I fit does cause an issue I will get back with you via a PM or something about how to make them or to get your help on it if you don't mind.

We can make two versions if you encounter slowdowns. I'll gladly reduce your model but I'll need help for the actual export for Skyrim part. Fortunately, Vioxsis may be willing to help us with that!

Cheers.

Okay here is what is going wrong lol. I can place all the pieces just fine, and I can select "Is Full LOD". But when I go in game to that area I can only see some of the pieces, some are invisible, but they have collision still so you hit an invisible wall (literally). So I will be needing some help with the LOD stuff. I wish I knew how to do it, but since I have no clue about that I humbly ask for someones help. Just PM me here on the forums with what you need from me.

I still have a lot to learn. So Far I know how to make new cells, edit cells and place objects. I just learned emittance and how it works, but that's about it. I need to learn how to script first so I am reading up on that and watching tutorials. After That I will start to learn about creating meshes and textures.

Thanks for the help :)

I read somewhere that Skyrim also uses LOD's in a form of simplified shapes incuded into the object's .nif itself. You just need to name or flag the shape accordingly.

I just tried doing that in the CK. Each piece I used i set it base nif as the LOD nif as well. It made no difference at all.

Have you seen this?

Gonna try to find that article about embedded lods. No idea where i read it now, too long ago.

That was not the CK way, that was engine feature of sorts. The article author stated though that it is not used in Skyrim very much, only a few objects have this.

Yep I read that page and it just confused me even more. I tried the nifskope instructions but it did not do anything that I could tell.
