Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 So I'm starting to go slowly insane... I'm trying to contribute to the world of skyrim and I'm starting what seems like an impossible quest now to get fucking blender to fucking work and be able to import nif files! ARRRHHH! It's so frustrating... I have searched online for answers and solutions and it's like a slap in the face when I can't get them to work and I admit I'm not an expert, but how in the hell do I get nif files into blender. I tried the nif exe and it always tells me to download the latest blender version and when I do it tells me I don't have blender installed at all. I tried adding the files through the add on option and nothing happens at all.... Can someone point me in the right direction or am I just completely fucked and can never convert armors or anything to skyrim. I think I'm close because I get the error message "failed to find path addons" I'm guess I need to move somethings around, but I have no idea.

Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 first, what do you exactly wanna do. cut stuff off armors? convert armors from one body to another? weapons? second, what version of blender do you use? third, sounds stupid, but you exported your nifs from skyrim by fo3archive, right? fourth, reason why number one is important: if you work on armors, you have to change a couple of things on the niffile to be able to work on them at all. static weapons can be done without bigger problems. fifth: on armor, you have two options. first, you pick the older version of blender 2.49 that has nifscript import available by a plugin. you could also export the plain meshes from the armor from nifskope to obj or 3ds format, and them IMPORT THOSE to a new version of blender. anyhow, personally i prefer tweaking stuff in 2.69 blender, THEN LINK / ADD THE FILES TO BLENDER 2.49 AND EXPORT FROM THERE. the reason is simple, 2.69 has a better interface, but you can forget about skinning and weighting there, mainly because the export funktion to nif is a desaster from 2.69 (which means it doesnt work, the export has to go through blender 2.49 combined with python and piffy)

Then check tutorial section there are others like converting armor etc.. http://www.loverslab.com/topic/22771-skyrim-blender-armor-conversion-tutorial-update/ That tutorial section has many other tutorials just look for what you want to achieve and it should available there http://www.loverslab.com/forum/29-tutorials-guides/
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Okay so reading through some and I'm about half getting it, but still can't get the right path to blender from what I gather...
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 crap, to slow, just wanted to link exactly this one.

D_ManXX2 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The reason why i pointed the first post. to animating section it will explain why nif files cannot be imported directed to blender yet you need to prepare the nif file and remove some part of i before blender will allow you to import it. The real reason is there is no skyrim improt and export scripts so you need to use fallout3/new Vegas and then change some stuff in nifscope before they will work right. Also if you want to work better with armor you may want too look at some of gerra scripts located here: http://www.loverslab.com/forum/42-modders-resources/ They will save you allot of time manually editing them. These are handy blender scripts to convert blend mend etc..
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 crap, to slow, just wanted to link exactly this one. Well honestly I'll probably need more help so stick around.

D_ManXX2 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 It depends, skyrim just takes a little more effort to master then bethesda older games. But once you know your way around it becomes easier. Just read some of those tutorials if you have questions just ask them and people here will try explain better. you can also go to youtube and search for those movies for blender and they will even show you with voices that will make it easier to understand your way around blender.
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Well sorry guys but I'm a big scrub and turns out I was missing the most important part and it was right in my face... I was choosing the wrong place to install addons for blender. Whoops.... lol....
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Well I'm finally able to get nif files into blender and now for more headaches trying to convert the armors....
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I was choosing the wrong place to install addons for blender. Whoops.... lol.... ---> ..... UUUAAAARRGH!!!! ......
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 I was choosing the wrong place to install addons for blender. Whoops.... lol.... ---> ..... UUUAAAARRGH!!!! ...... Well yeah it solved one problem, but the tutorial is out of date of sorts so it's going to be a bit harder than I thought. I have to change the Niheader and there isn't one... oh lordy... I should quit while I'm ahead. Edit: or it'll just randomly pop up... I hate skyrim now...
D_ManXX2 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 try 3dmax it will simplify this process. till nifscripts is fixed for blender there is no other way around for skyrim.
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 try 3dmax it will simplify this process. till nifscripts is fixed for blender there is no other way around for skyrim. Well so far I got the files loaded in and right now it's just trying to get the armors to fit to the body in the right ways.
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 hey wolfie, i hope i finally get a "like" ... heres how to view the header: change view to "list" dont forget to change back to "view block in trees", its makes further steps lots of easier. (and yes, i am a whore )
OnlyHazeRemains Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Are you still using blender or did you swich to max?
Wolfoftheshadows Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Are you still using blender or did you swich to max? Blender beat me pretty good and I'm hearing more about max being easier to use than blender, but I'm learning about both fairly quickly. There's so many road blocks or what seem like road blocks to work around with both.
OnlyHazeRemains Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 What timezone are you in? I'm gmt+1. If you have Teamspeak and are willing to install TeamViewer i could give you a little blender introduction.
