Hi and thanks for the report. I saw that too in one of my tests, but figured it was likely a fluke. The Maul quick-start does A LOT via dialogue scripts -- I think it's important to not click quickly through the dialogue. I think I've read somewhere that this can sometimes cause issues with the attached scripts not firing. In any case, that's the only explanation I can think of. I certainly rushed through the dialogue that one time it didn't execute things.

Ah. i certainly did rush through the dialogue (as is my habit) so that probably caused it. Classic Skyrim.

Ok question. And maybe I didn’t read them correctly, but is it possible for the player to be bought by a follower (like simple slavery) as a pony?

Sadly, no, there's no "player as pony" content in this mod or Ebonitium. I originally wanted to include a pony path in Ebonitium but couldn't think of anything interesting to do that would match the flavor and story of the quest/followers.

You probably already know this mod, but if not, it might be of interest to you :)

New Update!

Version 1.8.3 (May 29, 2026):

  • Bugfix: Logical error in Player Alias script that prevented Mera’s payment to work

  • Improvement: Enabled „Random Conversation“ flag to some of Aneke’s packages that didn’t need to have it disabled.

  •

Improved: Mera will no longer auto-loot corpses while having bound hands.

  • NEW FEATURE: Mera won’t agree to carrying stolen items.

  • Requries Steelfeathers’ Papyrus Extension! https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/154540?tab=description

Hello, i could talk with Maul and bought Aneke. Then i went to Ebontium, but there is no talk option with Mera or Aneke...

New game, newest updates. Are there setstages to trigger the dialogues?

(i do not want to solve the slavery part again)

Hi and thanks for the feedback! I'll check the dialogue conditions.

Hi again, a follow-up. I can't seem to find an error in the recruitment dialogue for both Aneke and Mera. What do they say when you speak to them?

With Aneke, there *should* be a dialogue prompt "Aneke, good news! I've just bought you." I take that doesn't show up in your game?

With Mera, her opening line to recruit her as a follower should be "Mera? Can you help me?"

Could you run a couple of console commands for me to help trouble-shoot this if you still have the savegame?

  • sqs AR_Q_SlaveryHandler -> this quest should NOT be running
  • sqs AR_Q_NPCScheduler_9004
  • sqs AR_Q_NPCScheduler_9006 -> one of these two should be running, but not both.

i  just started a new game because i was unhappy with some heavy followers (like Remiel).

i will check your commands before and after talking to Maul (buying Aneke)

in a few h I will have the results...

Edit: finally managed it.

1. Step: talk to Maul and pay some gold, so you can talk to him about Ebonitium. Do not talk to him again, because you have now the dialogue option to buy Aneke. But this leads to a dead end. No one has a talkoption in Ebonitium.

2. Step: go to Ebonitium and talk with Mera, she will follow you if you pay her.

3. Now talk to Aneke and she has talking options. Say her, you will try to free her.

4. Back to Rifton and talk to Maul. He will refuse until you are good with Brynjolf. So you need to make some TG Quests until Maul is happy.

5. If Maul is happy you can buy Aneke

6. If you bought Aneke, you can talk to her and do what is described ...

PS: as soon as Step 1 is made, AR_Q_NPCScheduler_9006 is running

Important summary: do not buy Aneke at the first meeting with Maul (this should be revised somehow)

Awesome, thank you so much for your help!

Your analaysis is extremely helpful and a great discovery with the dead-end in Maul's dialogue -- it never occured to me that the issue might be triggered by staying in the dialogue.

The dialogue script of Maul's first dialogue starts/stops a few quests and sets various variables. It seems like some of that might get delayed until the dialogue exits completely, or perhaps even fails to fire if one proceeds in the dialogue.

I hope this can be fixed easily by forcing the dialogue to exit after the first chat. I'll also add Hemming Black-Briar as an alternative dialogue partner so we won't have to rely on Maul and his restrictive vanilla dialogue conditions.
