How do Patreon releases work on a good day?

I don't understand how these releases are supposed to work. I saw some gameplay of a game called Delta zone on youtube, looked like something I might enjoy. However the gameplay on Youtube does not cover adult content. So I shoot off to the patreon page hoping to learn more. There is no showcase there, even the screens are blocked and gated behind subscription..

So how does that work exactly? They want to sell you the game without showcasing any of it... Sorry, what!?

I had to go to pornhub just to catch a small glimpse of the games adult content. Still not even close to illustrating what the game offers.

Surely I am missing something really basic here?

It's because Patreon won't allow public posts with nudity any more. A lot of creators have sidestepped the issue by offering a $1 tier, essentially just allowing you to follow their content and see behind the public blur. Others censor screenshots but in this case PH is likely as good as you'll get beyond the outdated builds that are doubtless available at f95zone.

Ahh right. Thank you for the details. I wonder why the author of that game hasn't released on Itch-io, or some other platform that allows adult showcasing.  Maybe they enjoy squeezing people for subscriptions. Seems to be working, that guy is making 13k a month off that game on Patreon lol.

Yeah, you're not wrong and there are a good few 'developers' in adult games that have worked out they make far more money by never actually finishing anything.

Hah! Sound about right.

That Delta game raised my eyebrows quite a bit as it is super rare to find H games with actual proper gameplay. From the limited amount I've seen it looks like he/she did a pretty great job with H-scenes. Conventional gameplay is lacking, but still a lot more scope than what is usually found in this genre.

The marketing feels a bit scammy, but perhaps that's the only way these niche games can survive. That said I still don't understand the lack of showcasing. If anything I would expect earlier builds to be on full display for cheap on Itch-io. The game appears quite good and yet it is not receiving hardly any exposure that way.

Sounds interesting to be fair, and you're right about marketing, I'd not heard of it til we had this conversation - not that these things are exactly easy to market.

Regardless, as there's no itch.io release I guess its f95zone for a 'demo' or join the Patreon I suppose. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though, there really aren't many games with both gameplay and sex, which is why my rig has had Skyrim and Fallout 4 permanently installed for a decade now 😄

Definitely man. The void of competent gameplay in this genre is so depressing. I thought at the very least a few big-wigs out there would venture to create some sort of passion-project- something that might qualify as an actual game. I'd say you could throw something together for around 20M, which is chump-change for a lot of people. It's not like it wouldn't turn any profit either.

The hunt for the horny billionaire continues.. :)
