If you got the disk and yes they sell them. Then you have steam cause the store bought disk comes with steam and installs it along with the game. To update it, just launch steam, browse to library, right click skyrim, click properties, on the window that pops up click updates tab, then in the drop down menu make sure it is keep this game updated(or something to that effect). Close the pop up window and skyrim should update. If not close steam and re start steam and then it will update skyrim.

So a legit copy of the game either as a disk or a download will have steam attached to it, the only ones without steam are hacked copies. Now I have heard of people making hacks that lets me use a store bought disk and then not install steam to be able to play, but that still counts as a hacked version and the only way to update it is by letting steam do it. Which steam will do with any legit copy of skyrim.

O_o disk for christmas? well can you show us a photo of it then? what is it legendary edition or just the skyrim game disk only O_o

The local Best Buy sells the disk, so yes they sell them. Both the regular and legendary editions. In fact of friend of mine bought his as a disk at best buy, while I did the steam buy on black friday cause it was so much cheaper.

If it was a pirated copy he would've just gotten the full and updated Legenday version anyway. Nobody gets just the base version if it's not legit. :D

Didn't think they ever sold version 0.0, sounds like a bad install perhaps. I assume you have tried re-installing and playing the vanilla game, if not its worth a go.

Just go to bestbuy or amazon and search for it, they sell disks of the game.

You are right though it could have just been a bad install or even a bad disk is possible.
