Looking for some general mod suggestions

Hi everyone !

I haven't been here since quite a long time and haven't touched a Bethesda game since around 2016.
Been bored staring at my screen after work lately so I thought I should go back to Fallout 4. Since I had the DLCs and never finished a single one !!

However, I've been out of the loop of the FO4 modding scene since a decade now and wanted to know if you guys had a good base of mods I should check out.

I play in 3rd person and back then we started to have a cover & camera switch (left to right view) mods, but they were clunky/not stable. I guess we have better versions nowadays?
I'm also all for a more realistic and sexy world and know we have some gems here.

Thanks for the help ! ^^

I actually have an entire guided install in the spirit of Lexy's LOTD for Skyrim in the works.

If you can wait a few weeks for me to finish compiling the list and making patches ;)

Oh that sounds good ! I don't know what Lexy's LOTD is but from what I can see it's a Wabbajack template (never used that feature either, been so long to me lol). But that's interesting ! Currently I'm just scouting one mod category at a time to see if something picks my interest and I save the mod webpage in a folder.

I know there are also some .ini file tweaks but it's been almost a decade I haven't touched those games, I forgot a lot of the ins and outs.

Lexy's isn't Wabbajack. It's 100% manual, and well worth it bc it's better than any Wabbajack out there.

I see, I always had an eye for Mouse's modlist for Skyrim. His gameplay streams/videos are just insanely good looking.

;)

My goal is an immersive and realistic wasteland that has many of the missing mechanics from previous games like KARMA an REPUTATION, as well as overhauls of the combat mechanics so that enemies don't feel like bullet sponges, making the game an actual challenge.

I would go with the Thuggysmurf, et al, series of mods: Fusion City Rising, Depravity, Outcasts and Remnants and Project Valkyrie (I personally skip 50 Ways to Die at Dr. Nick's). Assuming you have not already played the hell out of them. And no FO4 install is complete without Heather Casdin. They all leverage and expand upon existing areas, NPCs and quests.

Vorausgesetzt, du hast sie nicht schon ausgiebig gespielt. Und keine FO4-Installation ist ohne Heather Casdin komplett . Sie alle nutzen und erweitern bestehende Gebiete, NPCs und Quests.

Regarding the companions, I would like to add:

Ivy

Darlene - especially in the IKAROS revision

Ansonsten kannst Du auch gerne in meiner Mod-Liste stöbern

Darlene is good. So is Ellen the Cartographer. The mod-added companions mentioned add a decent amount of story. I always have Darlene, Ellen and Heather in my load list. I pick one to use during a playthrough and ignore the other two.

It's funny to see Ivy still out and about. If I remember correctly she was just a lewd companion you'd find in some Sanctuary's basement. She changed quite a bit apparently !

Haven't checked the other two companions, I'll have a look, thanks a lot guys!

Heather and Willow (for New Vegas, by the same author) are in my opinion the best companion mods for any of the Bethesda (and Bethesda-adjacent) games I have played, in my opinion (I like Willow slightly more).

And still on the topic of companion mods, The Machine and Her has a decent story (as I recall, it's been a while) and an interesting companion in it.

Regarding Ivy, I liked one of the older versions (I think it was version 5, when the mod was called "Insane Ivy"). Not so much the more recent version.

"The Machine and Her" has an extremely complex story – it ultimately poses the question of what a human being is… and explores the problem of "free will."

These questions are also raised in the "Ivy" mod – but from a completely different perspective.

Both mods delve very deeply into human psychology… that's not a suitable topic for a recreational activity like a "Fallout" game for every player.

That's why questions about the best companion mods are answered very differently.

Axo:

I think for the link to the "Ellen" mod… I didn't know that one!

I think you are giving both Machine and Ivy way too much credit. I don't recall either mod delving into questions of "what it means to be human." In my opinion, Ivy is a companion sex mod and Machine is a companion adventure mod. Although admittedly it's been a good long while since I played either one (and as I mentioned I don't particularly like the latest version of Ivy).

Thanks for the tips guys, I forgot to ask, is there a mod that has some sort of "transmog" mechanic ?

I remember that outfits were nice but having armor sets with different bonuses (like leather or combat armor) was better overall.
Is there a mod that can fix that by covering armor pieces with a classic outfit ? I haven't seen any so far, probably missed out something ^^

You can enhance normal clothing with "ballistic weave" – some mods allow this to be done in multiple stages.

But of course, this doesn't give you access to HEAVY combat armor or even the Navy armor (Far Harbor DLC) – and certainly not to power armor either.

There are well over 1,000 mods (on Nexus) related to armor – I've long since lost track of them.

Over the years, I've picked out something for myself – something that suits my playstyle and my own aesthetic... and, of course, also fits my view of this world (see my blog).

Even here on "loverslab," there are plenty of clothing and armor mods... and if you value animated sex in the Fallout world, then you'll have to familiarize yourself with the differences between the "Fusion Girl" body and the "cbbe" body... which will then also affect your choice of clothing and armor mods.

There's a very detailed guide on installing mods here in the "Fallout 4" forum section - I would definitely take a close look at it and STUDY it (not just "read" it).

To add to that note, I currently have CBBE because I want the clothing from the Capital Wasteland outfit pack, for which someone made CBBE BodySlides. The only reference I have seen to Fusion Girl BodySlides for this armor and clothing is for what comes with the Point Lookout mod, and I'm not installing a 4+ GB mod just to get some clothing.

Currently leaning more to TWB (because it's more muscular). But maybe CBBE has muscle sliders nowadays, since it has been updated more recently. I'll see how it goes. For now I'm still selecting/filtering mods ^^

Everybody has thier own ideas.

But outside of the salacious side of mods so prominent on this site I recommend:

Atomic World.

It is not a Radiation focused mod  but just adds so many new locations everywhere. game should have shipped like this years ago.

here is a patch for a nice LOD for it:

I remember playing this a long time ago (before the author removed Star City, as mentioned in the sticky on Nexusmods). Thanks to your mention, gonna add it to my current install. Cheers, mate.

Thank you for the kind words.

And sorry for all the typos ( I fixed some) i was nearly falling asleep when I typed it. 😌

Atomic World really is that good. So many locations. The loss of Star City has been more than made up.

It even has a town north of V111 exit perfect for low level exploration of new characters.

[Videos of the Wasteland] has an excellent constructable that improves settlement happiness

[Sol's Six Thousand Caps] (I got it here https://rentry.org/89gads ) has some "bionic surgery" options that cost caps to apply after you've done a very short quest to find the "control holotape" (I recommend the spleen, especially all three tiers if you play in survival)

additionally, [Vault-Tec MRE] is a solid mod that can help you de-clutter your food list in survival

[Defective Synths] and [Mannequins are Synths] make up for the DRAMATIC rarity of synth encounters, with how hyped up they are by NPCs

[SKK 4-76] does what it sounds like and (after you run the holotape) makes the world more like 76, if that's your thing (almost no friendly/neutral NPCs), I can't remember what its current name is but I believe it's been rolled into a larger project

[Darude Sandmonkeys] just makes those obnoxious monkey traps play Sandstorm instead of smashing cymbals together, if you regularly play with headphones it's a very welcome change (no this isn't my mod, and I didn't name it)

We all know it's for showing postage stamp-sized porn films on your settlement's TVs.

I like to have one playing Plan 9 from Outer Space, another playing The Thing from Another World.

FO4 came out in 2015, so a lot has changed since 2016.  Extended Script, body physics, performance mods, etc.

Almost a completely different game with mods.

Character body I would choose FG, CBBE 3BBB, or TWB.  Fusion Girl, Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer, CBBE 3BE (Enhanced Physics), or True Wasteland Body.  TWB is CBBE based but with different look.  There is also Atomic Fusion, Wonderbody, and a few others but not as widely supported.

Before starting, what do you want to do primarily?  Encounters with Zombie apocalypse, encounters with raiders, settlements, character screenshots, sex mods, environment?

Some Mod Managers will allow profiles to zero in on mods for certain game play desires.

There have also been significant advances in weapons, armor, settlement mods and visuals.  Plus performance/Bug Fixes.

You can use anything by Luxor for environment mods.

For character body use Fusion Girl or CBBE 3BBE depending on what clothing/armor mods your want.  FG is better, but I am using CBBE 3BBB currently just because.

For clothing I like anything Vtaw, DonEb, or Derserter X.   There are many others but these are the ones that have many armor/clothing mods.

Equipment and Crafting Overhauls have changed.  I would use anything by  DankRafft.  He has made a lot of changes to crafting as relates to the Chem Bench and clothing/armor modding.

PSBoss has made nice update to sexy/nude bobble heads.  Achilles4real, Real Phoenix and others have nice magazine or billboard/painting replacers.

FallUI for user interface mods.   Gamer enhancements/patches by 4estGimp.  High  Poly Face.

There are just too many enhancements since 2016 to list.

If you have specific questions just ask.
