Mal001 Posted March 21, 2025 Posted March 21, 2025 Is there a way to stop WWs from calling home? I have the Sims 4 blocked in the firewall and blocked in the game options to not get updates. But every time there's an update we start getting errors from a few mods stating that I need to update the mod to match the Sims game update, But...the Sims 4 game on the PC has not been updated, so that tells me that it is the mod seeing an update for The Sims 4 game somewhere other than the game. I just figured it was the mod calling home and getting an update notice. I hate these updates. Not the WWs updates, but rather the Game updates. My girlfriend plays the Sims 4 and every few weeks she starts getting update errors, and I spend a few hours chasing errors. So, if WWs has an executable file, and if I knew where it was, I could block that simply with the firewall. And if there is no executable file, then however it calls home would be nice to know. Thank You All for the great work you do. It is much appreciated. 🫲🙂🫱
MrGrey Posted March 21, 2025 Posted March 21, 2025 Sims 4 uses python, a powerful language. Yes. sims 4 calls home and yes, it collects a lot of data about your game. It's in the TURBODRIVER_WickedWhims_Scripts.ts4script file. How do you block it "simply with the firewall"? I'm on a bandwidth limited connection and lately I've been going over the limit, so I'm trying to stop updates and stuff using the internet. Sims 4 is very insistent on calling EA home base when EA app starts and I'd like to limit updates as well.

Turn off automatic updates, then set the app into "Offline Mode" (you can do this by going to the menu bar under "Account" and then "Go Offline") from there the app will always launch in offline mode and you can still play the game just by pressing the play button next to the name of the game. Lot 51 also has a script mod that stops EA telemetry, which might help with your bandwidth issue. I would also suggest turning off online features in-game if you haven't already. As for how to get WW to stop checking for updates, I don't know how to do that, but based on my own experiences, it should only do so when you first start the game up anyway. If you're getting other errors then it's likely because you updated the mod without updating the game (newer WW updates only work properly with the newer versions of the game).
Husk Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 You're misunderstanding how the mod checks for if there is an update available. It doesn't actually send any data anywhere but rather... well all it does it just basically checks a special website and compares the mod version mentioned there with the one that's stored in the mod files. So nothing is uploaded, nor downloaded, merely checked. As @cooldood555 said - once you click "Do not show again" next time you get a notification about a newer version being available it won't pop up.
