What'd you do?

First of all, let me introduce you to this thread. This is a 'What'd you do thread?' where you can share the strategy with which you defeated a certain boss, or a quest, assignment or mission, whatever you'd call it, that you thought was tough. Or to ask them here. Or just to share the silly things you'd seen playing Fallout NV. Honestly, I am not expecting this topic to be one of the 'HOT' pinned topics. But should it end up like that... well, let's just say it'll become our little haven.

Just a week ago, I beat Fallout NV. And I am interested in what kind of strategy people used to beat the final boss first time and from each playthrough there-on. The first time I played, I sided with House. And fought one hell of a fight with this nasty Legate.

The strategy I used was:

- After letting him spawn, I noticed his head is particularly vulnerable for a sneak attack. With AMR in hand, I shot him in the head, taking more than 50% of his life.

- Then I noted that everytime I shot him (you realize, it took a few tries), he immediately run to this exact spot. I planted three frag mines. Then... BOOM!

- Amazingly, he was still not dead (Tough bastard is what he is). And I had this somewhat of death wish to run up to him everytime I shot him and the pattern repeated itself this time, as well. But... only the advantage was mine. He had only had a sliver of life. Having acquired the Sniper perk early on, I went to VATS and put a bullet between his eyes. His head didn't explode, though. which was a dissappointment. If it did, it would have been vastly satisfying.

So, that's how beat the Legate. What'd you do? Did you also side with House? Or did you seek allegiance, elsewhere?

Note: Character Creation in Fallout NV and a great many NPCs are just dog-shit. The rest are passable. From what I'd seen, anyway.

I sided with Yes Man, and using a mod that makes explosives more effective (Puce Moose Tweak and Balance Center) I mini-nuked the Legate. Even with explosives beefed up and hitpoints nerfed it still took 2 shots.

Since my character is a tech nerd from the DC wasteland, she was originally enraptured by the idea of an eventual technocracy and rebuilding humanity following House's vision, but she just couldn't bring herself to destroy the BoS. No, they weren't the same as the BoS she'd known, but she was a member of Lyon's Pride - how could she ever go back and look Sarah and Elder Lyons in the face after doing something like that? Since House wouldn't bend, she eliminated him. Going the independent route, following House's plans, would have been ideal - but she didn't want to get stuck out West managing Vegas. She wanted to use what she'd learned on the West Coast about nation building to help rebuild her own homeland. So helping the NCR was really the only choice she had available at that point since she'd hated the Legion ever since that first encounter in Nipton which ended with her fragging Vulpes and his entire legion squad with a few well placed grenades as they were leaving.

As for the Legate, I can't say I used any special strategies. You're pretty OP by the time you reach lvl 50 and have all the bonuses and perks from the four expansions. I just layed into him with a .50 cal sniper while he was distracted by NCR rangers, and then a few well placed headshots in VATS with AP rounds took him down.

Didn't finish New Vegas as I lost interest. But I put a bullet into Benny after my chick rode his dick like a saddle and sent him into the oblivion.

I didn't like NCR and I didn't like Legion. I preferred to side with Great Khans because I felt like they were the underdogs. NCR killing them and their children. Legion only using them to merge an alliance to take on NCR. And the Great Khan's having to sell chems for a living. I can relate to that. lol Not that I slang, but I'm just saying I can relate to sacrifices for survival in their shoes. Because in the end, that's what it jots down to. Doing what ever is necessary to survive in New Vegas. I can't bring myself to call it wasteland because it's really not.

So if I would of finished the main quest. I would of killed all the factions including the 4 New Vegas factions. Have my chick stand next to her man Papa Khan the big bear that he is and reclaim New Vegas as one massive tribe.

Sadly... I didn't.
