Crib2Crypt Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 oh, eldritch gods i summon thee, fill my orifices with your dark knowledge. is it possible to turn a selection of items like they are one, instead of from the center of each object in the CS? or convert a selection of objects from CS into a nif without slowly trying to recreate it bit by bit in nifskope? specifically i want to copy-paste Crucible, spiraling up a mountain
fejeena Posted January 12, 2025 Posted January 12, 2025 (edited) CS and NifSkope: In CS you can not create nif files. Only with NifSkope you can create, copy, delete or add parts in a nif . There is no interaction between the 2 programs. turn objects in CS: which CS do you use? vanilla? or CS extender? I remember that selected objects were rotated around their own axis in CS extender 8 or 10 when I tried it. Too much that I didn't like, and everything confusingly colorful. But couldn't you adjust the rotation in the settings? ( in CSE 8 or higher) With field plants, rotation around their own axis is good. The rows are parallel, but you can change the orientation of the individual plants in each copied row. But I'm pretty sure there are rotation settings so you can rotate all objects. It was a few years ago when I tested different CSE versions. Before oct 2021, because I have never tried CSE11. I use CSE5.1 it is more or less like vanilla. You can select and turn objects Spoiler You select some objects Ten you rotate: hold righr mouse key and move the mouse Or hold x, y or z and right mouse key and move the mouse Also works with houses You can copy the 3 houses and paste or duplicate. Then with hold right mouse key and move the mouse you rotate In this way you can always place the same sequence of houses on a mountain. Crucible, spiraling up a mountain ? The whole city with bridges and stairs? Even if you only put the houses in one Nif it will be difficult to create a suitable mountain. What's the problem with adding house by house? And if you pack a lot of houses into one Nif and put these Nif one after the other on the mountain, it becomes very monotonous, always the same sequence of houses. Better mix single/individual houses. You can copy 2 or more houses and paste them again and again. Then you can move the individual houses and place them precisely and also change the order. That certainly looks better than a Nif with 5, 6 or 7 houses lined up next to each other. Edited January 12, 2025 by fejeena 1
Crib2Crypt Posted January 12, 2025 Author Posted January 12, 2025 thank you for showing me its possible, i figured it out, i couldn't do what i wanted with crucible, especially with oblivion's LOD, but now i have a powerful tool in my tool-belt , and this halfway attempt doesn't hurt
fejeena Posted January 13, 2025 Posted January 13, 2025 Yes the LOD. If you copy some houses into one nif you have to create a new LOD nif = _far.nif. If you have crucible houses far nif you can copy them in one nif ( same postion as your real nif ) If you do not have crucible far nifs you can use a copy of the real nif and delete all collision and all "Tangent space (binormal & tangent vectors)" (This reduces e.g. DementiaHouse04.nif from 414KB to 274KB ) You can also create new lowres textures and change the textures path in your new _far nif. I have a folder textures\lowres\ and inside the same folders as the real textures. Example: the dementia roof texture textures\architecture\city\dementia\tinroof.dds and tinroof_n.dds you copy in the lowres folder textures\lowres\architecture\city\dementia\tinroof.dds and tinroof_n.dds Then you scale down the tinroof.dds and tinroof_n.dds ( with PhotoShop, Gimp, Paint.net ) e.g. 256x256 In your _far nif you change the textures path to textures\lowres\architecture\city\dementia\tinroof.dds The _far nif in the same folder as the real nif ( e.g. meshes\architecture\city\dementia\DementiaHouse04.NIF you put the DementiaHouse04_far.NIF ) ---- Or check if there is a far nif Mod at nexus with crucible houses. ---- Then update the LOD with run TES4LODGen ( Remember LOD are load order dependent, you must run TES4LODGen after every load order change ) If you place new original house nif in your world ( Mod or Vanilla) you also have to run TES4LODGen or you don't see a LOD house in distance view. If you have very good comp you can set the new placed nif "Visible when distant" in CS. Then the game use the real nif in distance view, like all trees . Frame killing but no TES4LODGen needed.
