brown66 Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 I bought the 9800X3D a few days after it was launched, taking advantage of it before the price went up further and this processor ran out. Tests on YouTube showed phenomenal performance in the Sarfield game, completely surpassing a 14900K, something that its non-3DX 9000 series cousins couldn't do. And what was my disappointment and despair when I started to notice random sutters, some reaching one to two seconds, in Starfield! Shortening a long story, today I discovered that the problem is that when doing a clean installation of Windows 11, because of this new processor, I had added the exceptions to the Windows antivirus that I already had active with my previous i7-1200K, but , I don't know how, I failed to also add an exception for the Mod Organizer executable file. After adding this exception and restarting Windows to make this exception active, the stutters in Starfield disappeared!
nIn nIn nIn Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Are you using the dev build 2 version of mod organiser? As far as I can tell, the dev build is the most up to date version.
brown66 Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Yes, I'm using v2.5.3dev2 and the Windows 11 is the 24H2 version. When I installed this new processor and its motherboard and memories, for a couple of days I used the same SSD that I used with the i7-12700K, without updating Windows, just to see if everything was working without problems. And the game worked perfectly. It was only after doing a new installation of Windows that I started having sutters in the game and only yesterday I discovered that I had not yet added an exception for Mod Organizer in the Windows antivirus. The Windows antivirus did not prevent this program from working, but it was always on top of it monitoring its activity. This 9800X3D makes the experience of playing Starfield very fluid, even in 4K, so any stuttering is evident.
brown66 Posted January 5, 2025 Author Posted January 5, 2025 (edited) And... I was wrong! The stutters came back after my initial message! However, I have now discovered its cause, with 100% certainty, since several days and hours of gameplay have already passed. When I changed processors, for a reason unknown to me (it must have been my mistake), I was unable to use the same Samsung 860 EVO that I used before with the i7-12700K as the Windows 11 installation SSD. As I was in a hurry to get my computer working again, I went to the only computer store in my area and bought the cheapest NVME with one TB they had for sale - a TeamGroup MP33 Pro. Well, on the first day of this year 2025, I had some time available and managed to transfer the operating system that was on this TeamGroup MP33 Pro to a WD_Black SN77 and bye bye sutters that sometimes lasted 2 to 3 seconds! I had already read somewhere a negative review of the first generation of these NVME from TeamGroup, saying that, sometimes, in reading operations, they had delays of 2-3 seconds and it is confirmed! These are definitely NVME SSDs to be used as backups, as they are cheap, but not for gaming or real work. So guys, the quality of the damn SSD matters a lot in Starfield! nIn nIn nIn Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 Damn. That ranks up there with "out of left field" I have always used Samsung SSD's in my PC's and my family's PC's too. Other than the 2 pre-builds that could not be changed. I have also heard good things about the Crucial brand.
