Ravana Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Alright, here's the deal: I just cleared the Vampire Lair for the Morthal quest "Laid to Rest", and now, I can't get back to Morthal to turn it in. Some anomalies I've noticed prior to CTD: When the angry mob formed outside the Jarl's hall earlier in the quest, one of them ran off ahead while the others stayed behind. No one had anything interesting to say. I assume the one who ran off was supposed to have some commentary on the vampire's lair. The angry mob never formed outside of Movarth's Lair, even given 48 hours. In fact, all those people simply vanished. I cannot find them anymore. The CTD always happens in the same location; partway into Morthal, in the cell that holds the Jarl's Hall. Some guards will render moments before crashing. Edit: Now it seems to happen randomly within Morthal hold. It's as if the game is trying to process something and failing. No amount of waiting, sleeping, or fast-traveling causes that mob to reappear anywhere in the related area. This did not happen on my previous character's game, who was running the same mods. NONE of the recorded bugs on UESP Wiki or TES Wikia occurred through the progression of this quest - This is a totally new thing. I cannot find anything useful or suspicious in my logs, each log ends with "[12/20/2013 - 04:56:29PM] Saving game..." Here's my BOSS log, though I don't think it'll provide much insight. jbezorg Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I've been trapped inside the Winking Skever in Solitude because of CTDs as soon as I exit. The only way I could fix it was to use the console and coc to solitudestables. After that entering the front gate to solitude caused a CTD. I had to use the entrance under the arch and come up in the windmill tower where I could load the zone without LOS to the front gate. After the zone loaded I was okay. Another time, same issue, trying to enter a specific area. I created a new character. coc'ed into that area with the new character to pre-load the zone. Then, without exiting the game, loaded in my normal save and was able to proceed.

Hentai-chan Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Hmm... I don't see any problems with your load order. There could be a lot of reasons, actually. Skyrim is known to have these pretty annoying bugs, I prefer to call "fixed bugs". Mind you, they aren't fixed as in corrected. They seem to occur at very exact spots or during very exact quests. Been burned by it a few times myself. Ahh... console commands. Now there, I can definitely help. Open your console and punch in setstage MS14 200. Bit of advice, if you've got any saves before initiating the quest, you might also avoid the quest altogether. Unless if you think it's crucial, of course.

Avoiding the quest isn't a bad idea, though I -really- wanted my home in Morthal, being an Argonian, a nice little oceanview vista sounded nice. Of course, even if I use the console code (Thank you, by the way ! ) I won't be able to go back into Morthal to speak to the Jarl about the land. Also, with regrets, making a new character and heading into load the Morthal cell had no noteworthy effect on the crash Thank you both, very much for trying to help I appreciate it more than you know. I'll put this down for now, do research elsewhere and unwind with something else. Hopefully this won't end with me having to drop 20 hours of progress or more!
srayesmanll Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I noticed you have "run for your lives" and "when vampires attack". I ran into a situation where the mob that was supposed to follow me suddenly ran off before we could set off for the Lair. Turns out in my case there was a vampire in the area. Had to hunt it down (they weren't in town initially, but eventually showed up). Once the vampire party was killed, everything went back to normal (the mob reformed and I was able to lead them to the lair). Maybe this is what you saw?

That's worth looking into, but I have 0 idea where they all went off to, and spending too much time in Morthal hold now causes a crash, so I couldn't even help them track down the vampire they're looking for, if that's what they were doing. I have heard that sometimes the mob ends up near Fort Greymoor; I'm gonna go check there. Edit: Bah, I can't even get to Fort Greymoor without crash. I hate to drop this guy but I think this guy is done for

Hentai-chan Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I might suggest you turn off any mod that may be conflicting. And if you deleted some mods using NMM, double-check if they're really gone. Other than that I would direct you to some possible solutions, though there is definite possibility that they will work. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48262/? - Crash and Freeze Compendium (might give you a few tips) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46465/? - Safety Load (might not help at all, but nice to have anyway) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38649/? - CTD and ENBoost http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31724/? - Skyrim Save Cleaner (might genuinely help you, watch the video for details) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31675/? - Skyrim Savegame Cleaning Guide Note: Check back before posting anything. I had one more thing that can help you. Edit: I'll let you know if I see anything that can help. So for now, ciao! Edit2: Re-assemble your load order. Might help. And also did you install SkyRe and loaded a save without the mod. I remember having a lot of crashes when I first installed it. Also if you're using a SkyProc patcher, you might want to use NMM. Why? 'cause there is a simple workaround for when you are using a SkyProc Patcher and prevent it from messing up your load order. And how do you do that? 1) Open NMM 2) Run the patcher, keep NMM running in the meantime 3) When it's done, because NMM is so dumb that it doesn't update to the current load order unlike Bash, make a small change, then restore it, if you want to 4) Close NMM and re-open it 5) Ta-da! Your load order is the same when you closed NMM. I bear no sympathy for NMM or the Nexus but they are, at the very least, useful.

There's a good chunk of useful info in there, I'll keep this pasted into a doc somewhere for reference. I can safely say that with this case, Save Cleaning alone didn't help, but I also didn't have the rest of the sources here. I'll remember you next time I encounter a similar problem - It's bound to happen again in the future anyway right? Thanks again, truly
Hentai-chan Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Having encountered similar problems in the past, one thing I can do is, at least, put people in the right direction.
