Bluegunk Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) I've a little mystery in my Skyrim AE on PC. I'm testing my 1,242 play-through and when I pop over to another cell, the NPCs are often in a glowing purple, that then falls off (yes...falls off) as semi-transparent purple squares. After which things are normal. Strike me as a shader of some kind? I use RASS, ENB, and Ray Tracing (paid-for) with a DLSS mod. I've seen some occasional weird visuals with RTGI / DLSS - but they clear very swifty. Do folks think this is another RTGI/DLSS issue? If so, I can take my enquiry to the RTGI guy. Thanks! Pics. The purple in its full glroy And then it falls away in these squares.... Edited November 30, 2024 by Bluegunk
traison Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Well my first question is, considering the list of mods you're suspecting, why haven't you disabled these to test? DLSS, not baked into the save, can be disabled at any time. ENB, not baked into the save, can be disabled at any time. RT, again, post-processing and not an actual game object that would reside in the save. But if we focus just on the purple effect, and assume its not from one of those previously mentioned mods, then my first guess would be an effect similar to the FrostFXShader [EFSH:0001F03A] shader used by (among other things) the Frostbite spell. Pretty sure that also has smoke puffs that fall down, simulating cold vapor. Someone used that effect as a base and swapped the blueish/white fill color for an intense purple one, and the smoke puffs with purple uneven squares.

That's a bit worrying at 65. 🤪 As it happens, I rearranged and reduced my NPC overhaul mods and the effect vanished. So it's also probably a bit of lag from an over-stuffed game. If it arises again I'll do the eminently sensible thing and knock out the suspects to see what happens. Thank you for reminding me!
Bluegunk Posted November 30, 2024 Author Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) My purple squares are back. So I cleared DLSS and RTGI as a source of the effect. Frost shaders. The places I'm seeing this are away from frost and magic. But that's given me a few ideas where to check. Thanks. SOLVED. D'Oh. This gets even more embarrassing. I'd set Scent of Sex up to show brief colours for potential actors / actors who can't be used....etc. Serves me right for playing Starfield for a few weeks and forgetting this. Ugh. I only used that as an example, it's probably not the frost magic effect. Would be easy to test tho, cast Frostbite on someone and see what happens. Otherwise, the only think I can think of right now for finding it would potentially be More Informative Console combined with the sgtm console command. If we assume the effect is visible for 5 seconds, if you set sgtm to 0.1 you should have 50 seconds to use MIC to find the magic effect. Edit: verify that MIC can display magic effects first, and find where it does so if it does. I'm busy with other stuff right now so I'm just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it sticks. Edit again: Ignore this. I shouldn't post when I'm doing other things that require all my attention. Glad you got it sorted tho. Edited November 30, 2024 by traison
