Using a preset for companion face

Hello all,

 

Does anyone have experience in using a preset as a companion's face? I am trying to make a companion from scratch using a preset for the face, I have been able to do it in SSE but damn if I can get it to work in FO4. I don't want to use face ripper method that ends up requiring a plug in nor SLM is a solution, defeats the purpose. Any help is appreciated.

I just know that if the head mesh is a completely different resource than the vanilla human, then that would also mean that's a new race.

I have tried it using a new race still same result but I think I will try once more using a custom race. The preset seems to make player character a new race and does have a json file. I just don't know how I would apply that other than make the preset mod a master? Doing that I might as well make a plugin which I really did not want to do. Frustrating!

 

Actually I want to say the json is from spf. Even with changing my npc to the other race I still get the same result
