Pregnant NPCs?

If an NPC becomes pregnant via RJW mechanics or otherwise while at my base and then leaves the map, does the pregnancy continue to progress off-screen, is it terminated entirely, or is it frozen until they return? I'm uncertain to what extent pregnancy, or any health effect is simulated by off-screen pawns.

 

Edit: I found this Reddit post suggesting that they do indeed give birth off-screen at some point.

They're supposed to but I also heard sometimes a pregnancy can bug the game because the baby tries to be born but it won't for some reason, and it throws up errors and the mother basically kills your game. You usually have to dev her onto your tile to force her to give birth or something.
