Unsupported video card

I've been playing this game for years and now I'm getting an error message that I have an unsupported video card. It's causing the game to crash. This started after the last patch. I have a NVIDIA GeForce G105M. I have updated the drivers (they were up to date). I also set the game options to default. I am also playing on a laptop and have the laptop box in options checked. Any ideas for a fix?

Have you tried putting the game in DX9 mode?

No I haven't but I'll give it a try if reinstalling the game doesn't work.

Reinstalled the game. Still some problems. I tried the DX9 and it helped a little. When I start the game using the game exc file it gives me the unsupported video card error and shuts down. If I start the game with the launcher I can start the game, build a family in CAS, pick a season then after I pick a house the screen goes black during the move and the game shuts down.
