[Question] Neckseam with high poly head [answered]

I have high poly head 1.4 and I can get it to work fine for females after simply adjusting the weight slider.

Doesn't work for males though. Using the default SOS body & "Male face textures default & sod compatible".

Is there maybe a better face/body combo? Most of my LL mods are for sos so would need to use that as a base

Male sure the malehead.nif from High Poly Head (\meshes\KL\High Poly Head) and the body that's being equipped both have the same Specular Color, Specular Strength and Lighting Effect 1/2 settings:

I can't recall where but I've seen mods that introduce different settings.  Check your male texture replacers to see if they're also replacing meshes with mismatched settings.  If these are not identical between head and body there will be a noticeable seam no matter how well matched the textures are.

Also, if you're using Wet Function Redux, make sure you are using the modified .esm (found on this site or easily edited by yourself).  The WFR mod will not apply specular textures to the head if its EditorID and Name are not the same, which requires editing the High Poly Head.esm.

Not using WFR but I'll check the spec color. I know there's a recommended face & body mesh on the SoS page I was considering that might help, but I really like the face replacer look I got 😅

That seam is bugging the crap put of me though.

Understandable. Very much so.

Did you try changing to higher quality textures already? Like BnP just as an example.

You'll always have a slightly different color for head and body, but BnP's is very weak compared to others I've used.

Also the lighting effects this effect  immensely, maybe instead of looking for the problem on character, try changing the lighting with a mod

Was thinking of trying the one suggested on the SoS page, tempered skins, since its face & body combo seeing if that helps.

For lighting I use Enhanced lights & fx.

It's only the male giving me an issue. Female textures are fine. Khajit & argonian textured are fine. Just human/elf males.

You can also try changing FixTintGamma under enblocal.ini assuming you use ENB.  I set it to false.

[FIX]

FixTintGamma=false

I've used with ELFX and without ELFX and no neck seam.  I've used BnP male textures (converted to LE DXT formats), Vitruvia textures for SoS full and haven't seen a neck seam.  I tried textures from the race based textures mod and experienced a neck seam on some races because it had mismatched _sk files.  It's important to check all the textures, including the blankdetailmap.dds.  The default blankdetailmap.dds has a slight grey-green tint which creates a "seam" at the neck so make sure the texture replacer you're using has this texture and that you're using it.

Finally, check that the high poly malehead.nif and the malebody are using the same settings under BSLightingShaderProperty as well as the same BS Vector Flags under NiTriShape (if a LE format mesh).
