Skyrim SE Mod Organizer WTF?!?!?!

Ugh, ok I'm going to need some info to get this working.

I used the Mod Organizer that everyone claims is great to install just the base stuff for SE.  SKSE, CBBE, Sexlab, SOS, Bodyslide, FNIS, and Keo's skimpy Armor.

Get all that setup and I go to use Bodyslide... it's not there.  Mod Organizer shows that this is installed in the proper file location... but when I go to the location NOTHING IS ACTUALLY WHERE IT SAYS IT IS!!!  NONE of these files actually installed the location of the game files.

Ok... I'm confused by this but I'm not familiar with how Mod Organizer works.

Install the Body files manually and build my body... time for a test run.  Here's the real fun...

Start SKSE from Mod Organizer, it spits out an error about a DLL not being installed properly, game CTDs just after the logo loads.

Start SKSE from the files... everything works fine, no errors mentioned... except there's not one damn mod installed or showing it's installed.  Having manually installed the Bodyslide Files and Skimpy Armor that appears to be fine.

What am I missing here?

Mod Organizer 2 (you are using MO2 and not the original, right?) uses a virtual file system, or "VFS" for short.  It doesn't place files in the actual game directly, it just "stitches" them together in memory when you launch the game from Mod Organizer's UI.  This is what makes MO2 so powerful and useful - it never breaks your game install by overwriting the wrong thing, putting files in the wrong place, leaving files behind, etc.  You also don't have to worry about what order you installed things - it's as simple as dragging to re-order mods (lower on the list overwrites higher on the list).

That said, there are a couple things that need to be installed directly into your game folder yourself, by hand.  SKSE and ENB (if you use it).  Don't install these via Mod Organizer, they don't play nicely with the VFS due to how they hook into the game engine.  Just extract SKSE directly into your game folder, then add the SKSE launcher as an executable in Mod Organizer.  Then use Mod Organizer to handle all your mod installations and load order and launch the game by selecting SKSE from Mod Organizer and running it.

There's plenty of tutorials (text and/or video) out there, Google is your friend.  🙂

so MO2 uses VFS (Virtual File System) to place the mods in your directory when you launch any app through MO2 this is to keep the install directory clean and makes it easier to move the game files to different drive or uninstall while not loosing your mod setups

to use any programs you must add them to the program list so they use that VF system.

just press on the bar next to the RUN button to add programs to the list. to find in this case the place where bodyslide is located go to the settings (wrench & screwdriver icon) and go to paths then find your base directory then go to mods and Bodyslide should be installed there so you can copy the path to go back there when you want to add the file

ive attached a video if you need it

Ok... well that did me no good.

I had exactly the same problem even after following the instructions to the T.

Inspecting this error I keep getting I find that the DLL is something for the Jiggle Physics.  Can't solve why the "F" it thinks the DLL is "disabled", so I just removed it thinking this would allow the game to run.

NOPE CTD, same spot.  I see the Studio Logo and crash... ((Before I was atleast seeing the Dragon before the crash, not anymore)).

Decided to go through the mods one by one to see what is causing the CTD (none are showing they are missing other mods currently, again I've barely got anything installed)... NONE of them are causing it.  Disabled every freaking mod and the game still CTDs when launched through MO2.  No idea why...

HOWEVER, if I use the standard launcher... it's fine, game runs.  If I use the SKSE.exe file... it runs no CTD... but without the mods as they are not hard installed.

My only guess is that the MO2 isn't launching it correctly.  No idea why.

Going to do a test, because it seems like the Bodyslide and Skimpy armor worked just fine after hard installing them instead of this dumb virtual installing keeps crashing.

My initial thought was that your STEAM install folder isn't "clean" (meaning you've got leftover files from whatever installer/method you used before MO2), but reading a little closer into what you said, that's probably not the case.  Can you post a screenshot of your SKSE executable configuration in MO2?

1. Click the dropdown for your executables

2. Click "Edit"

3. Click on your SKSE entry

4. Take screenshot and post it here

Do the same for "Skyrim Special Edition Launcher".  If the file path(s) for these contain any sensitive info (such as your user profile directory), please block out ONLY the sensitive part of the directory path, and if you have to block it out in both screenshots, indicate if the blocked out bit is the same between the two screenshots or not.

@davisev5225

I figured out what that problem was or at least I think I did... Though I had already wiped everything and started over.  Slowly working my way through mods to figure out what the hell was causing the CTD it turned out to be SkyUI.

Not sure why or how but a fresh install fixed that issue.  My best guess is that this virtual nonsense installing didn't work right the first time around OR... I'm finding some SE mods cause a CTD and have to use AE version which for whatever reason works, (yes, it's SE and not AE, checked several times just to make sure I'm not being dumb) (Before ANYONE says in thing about this virtual install function read my new problem).

Now... I've got a new issue.

I get all that fixed up and the game is running so it's time to start getting the basics of Sexlab installed.

I get to a certain point with no issue testing as I go along... then I'm looking at the requirements for something as once again game is bugging out.  Turns out I had grabbed an older version of the Framework by mistake (153 or something) and need to grab the 163 version along with some other prerequisites for SLSeperate Orgasms... a few tweaks and things.

Mind you that the 153 (or whatever) version of the Framework, worked perfectly fine, was able to install it in game and setup settings.
With the 163 version... I have multiple problems suddenly...

1. SoS suddenly acts like it's missing a DLL file... great seen this before (for now I think I solved it, hasn't come back up)(Haven't tested if it's working yet... I did see that no options are showing up in the menu... not really sure why not. I did notice that taking clothes from the males did NOT result in nudity, but rather the underwear for some reason.)
2. Sexlab Utility is also acting like the DLL is not there... (ok, no idea but this only shows up on continue but not new game...)  Either way that gets me to the real issue...
3. I can't intialize Sexlabs now.  For some dumb reason it's registering 2 buttons instead of 1 and neither are starting the Install process.

One problem at a time...
