Guest Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 So, me and 2 other friends had came up with a concept and have started working on a PC game called Operation: Messiah. It's kinda like Deus Ex, just that the augmentations are changed with humans discovering alien technology. You wake up in one of the Moscow's hospitals not remembering who you are or what you are doing here. Your job is to find out what you were supposed to do. BUt, when you exit the hospital, you see the ruins of what was once a great city... We are thinking of making it a bit open world and that every disision you make could effect the end. I wanted to see what you guys think of this idea. Suggestions or even help is much appreciated If anyone is interested in helping, or just has neat ideas feel free to post them here or PM me.
Guest carywinton Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Sounds like a cross between Fallout 3 Zeta and Metro Last Light. It is an interesting concept, what engine is the game going to be based on? Who will do the engine work, programming and such? Is this to be a mod for an existing game or a new game? Who will do the 2D and 3D work? Who will write the story and dialog? Who will do the scripting? Do you or anyone working with you own all the necessary software? Is the software licensed for commercial work? These are just a few of the basic and I mean very basic aspects of game production necessary to move forward, not to mention funding. Update Edit: Write out your complete story, all lines of dialog, narrated scenes, everything, then Story Board it all, this will, give you a clear idea of the size of your project and what it will take to get to the next phase, I hope this helps you get some idea of the magnitude you are considering. I would highly suggest looking at and playing through several large scale mods to get aquainted with the amount of work it will take. One in particular I would recommend is "A Quest For Heaven" Ep 1 - EP3, this is on Fallout 3 Nexus and I can certainly say, for a small team, it is one of the most epic works I have ever seen.
Guest Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Well, it's going to be built in UnrealEngine. We are using Unreal Development Kit to build the game. I'll be the map disigner. producer and sound designer. Atm we are using what we can get free of charge, because this game thing is just a hobby not a full time job. THe team is made up out of 3 people: Me, our story writer, and the coder. I know that this isn't really a good start, but it's atleast something This is going to be a standalone game. We hope to atleast have a good starting point until next year
Guest Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Just a little update on our project: We have already writen 2 full pages of story with dialoge lines and everything. Tommorow I'll drawing out the main charecters. If anyone is interested in this project please ask away
Wolfoftheshadows Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 When it comes to Moscow... I only want to be neck deep in mutants in it's metro tunnels.
Guest carywinton Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Ok then, sounds like there is a small team assembled and dedicated to the project, that's a really good start and more than most get. There is a good bit of dialog that has been done and now moving on to some story boarding, excellent news and well done on your progress. Using some form of licensing like Creative Commons and the like might be a good idea to look in to right about now, especially since the platform is UDK, which is a fine choice. Software will probably be GIMP, Blender, etc., since this is a tight budget project, so no real big issues there except for maybe dealing will all the plugins, conversion, etc. Soon as there are a few story boards with light introduction type dialog, please consider posting this early Alpha work. This may assist in getting the necessary help being requested. Specify the areas of help that are needed as well. I will try to assist when possible, there are various areas of the game production process I may be of some benefit to you, unfortunately not the creative artists side nor the guru scripter programmer.
Victoria K. Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Great concept and wish you luck bringing your project to life, really. As CaryWinton wrote above, could be of use to specify the areas of help that are needed. I would be glad to help if I can.
Guest Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Thank you for your responces! We already seted up some of our early script (You can thank our story writer for that). It's going to have some kind of augmentations, bt insteed of the Deus Ex ones, we're going to use Alien technology ones, as humans have found this technology excavating. To be honest, not much work was done since of the hollidays. I really hope to catch up in these few days. Thanks for the support. I'll contact you when we have something that we need help with.
ChancellorKremlin Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 As a fan of archaeology, the alien excavation angle has got me onboard. Good luck with it! Oh, and Merry Christmas!
